Golf Team Brings Home 5th State Championship Congratulaons to our Golf Team and their coach, Mark Dubbs, on winning their 5th consecuve state championship Wednesday at the University of Maryland. The team of Jackson Courtney, Nick Mejia, John Szymanski, and Alex Pak shot a 2 day total of 633 defeang second place Middletown by 34 strokes. Jackson's final round of 71 was the tournament-best round. This is an incredible accomplishment, especially for our seniors, Jackson, Nick, and John, who have played on 4 consecuve state championship teams. MUSTANG PROUD!!

Golf Team Brings Home 5th State Championship Congratulations to our Golf Team and their coach, Mark Dubbs, on winning

their 5th consecutive state championship Wednesday at the University of

Maryland. The team of Jackson Courtney, Nick Mejia, John Szymanski,

and Alex Pak shot a 2 day total of 633 defeating second place Middletown

by 34 strokes. Jackson's final round of 71 was the tournament-best round.

This is an incredible accomplishment, especially for our seniors, Jackson,

Nick, and John, who have played on 4 consecutive state championship

teams. MUSTANG PROUD!!

Senior Portraits Lifetouch will be here on November 15 and 16 for their final senior portrait shoot. Any senior that has not

had his/her portrait taken should receive an appointment card in the mail from Lifetouch. In case you

missed the card or threw it away, the appointment schedule will be available in the front office. If you

should have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Romero at [email protected].

BOOK CLUB November book selection is This is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp and will meet after school on Mon-

day, November 28 for a discussion. Stop by the Media Center if you need a copy.

SHAKESPEARE CLUB Request Used Books

Do you have books lying around the house? Tired of them taking up space?

Marriotts Ridge’s Shakespeare Club has the perfect solution for you!

Between Monday, October 24 and Friday, November 11 the Shakespeare Club will be collecting books in

every English classroom. These books will be sold to students and parents during MRHS’s production of A

Midsummer Night’s Dream. All proceeds and books that are not sold will be donated to the Maryland Book

Bank.

MRHS CLUB ICE HOCKEY Come out and support the Mustang Club Ice Hockey! Most games are played at The Gardens Ice House lo-

cated at 13800 Old Gunpowder Road, Laurel MD 20707. The Columbia Rink is near Oakland Mills High

School on Thunder Hill Road in Columbia. The 2016-17 game schedule is posted on the school website

Student Spotlight

Wendy Yang was honored by the Maryland Foreign Language Association on October 21, 2016, as the overall

state-wide winner of the 2016 Visual Arts Contest. She and her parents were MFLA guests at the annual banquet, she

received a check for $100, and her artwork was featured on the cover of the Fall Conference program. Wendy en-

tered the contest as a student in Mrs. McCabe’s Spanish III Honors class last spring.

Max Kaiser has been selected by Catholic University of America to be a member of the Fall 2016 Chamber and

Symphony Orchestras. Max will be the principal bassoon for the upcoming performances of Prokofiev’s famous story

Peter and the Wolf at the Arts Barn in Gaithersburg, as well as for the formal symphonic concert at the Italian Embas-

sy in Washington D.C. He is the only participant in the ensemble who is not of college age, yet he more than holds his

own!

JV Cheerleaders Earn a First Place Trophy Congratulations to the JV Cheerleaders who earned a first place trophy with a score of 101.4 while competing at

Chesapeake High School last weekend. The cheerleaders also took home a trophy for Best Choreography overall

among JV and Varsity teams that competed that day. The Lady Mustangs will compete next on Wednesday, Novem-

ber 2 right here at MRHS, as they chase a repeat County Champion title. GOOD LUCK Ladies!

Another Amazing Tournament for Speech & Debate The Speech and Debate team competed at the BCFL tournament on October 22 with amazing results!

Once again MRHS’s team came in first place as a school. A special shout out to the Lincoln-Douglas varsity team as all

5 members went undefeated making the team 15-0, a rare accomplishment! There were 233 students from 26

schools which competed. Individual awards went to: Original Interpretation — Silver: Julia Mann; Gold: Makarand

Parigi, Ilsa Mir Dramatic Performance — Honorable Menion: Vienna Wang Extemporaneous Speaking — Honora-

Mr. Ault Highlighted by James Madison Fellowship Mr. Ault, teacher of AP U.S. Government and Politics and AP Comparative Government and Politics, was highlighted

by the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation as this week’s Teacher Tuesday Spotlight. We have awesome

teachers at Marriotts Ridge who are doing great things with students every day! Check out what Mr. Ault had to say

Student Volunteer Opportunity — Earn Service Hours! Mount View Middle School is looking for high school students to volunteer their time to help middle school sudents

with basic English and Math homework. Student volunteers would meet after school at MVMS on Tuesdays (English)

and/or Thursdays (Math) from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Volunteers may attend as often as their schedules allow; no need to

attend every session. If you are interested, please email Mrs. Remmel at [email protected].
