Welcome to MISTA - Mission Statement

MISTA is the Markham International Sports Training Academy, and we

believe it will be a special place for Ontario Athletes with big dreams.

•A Place to strive for athletic excellence

•A Place to create cultural integration in sports

•A Place to embrace a healthy life-style

•A Place to develop life long character building skills

•A Place to support elite athletes with Olympic dreams

It’s a facility with plenty of room for organizations and athletes to be the

best in a centre that puts the emphasis on excellence.

In 2005, the plan to create Downsview as the home of the Canadian

Sports Centre Ontario was deemed unworkable. In York Region’s 2005

bid for the Commonwealth Games, the Markham site was selected and

endorsed by the CSIO Board as the best location in the GTA.

Markham’s strategy includes space for a wide variety of summer and

winter Olympic sports, so we encourage athletes and organizations to

consider an invitation to explore the opportunities at MISTA.

Markham’s goal has always been to create a Centre for Ontario athletes

to strive for excellence and prepare for a place on the world stage.

After years of research and planning “MISTA” is the answer.

Provide the tools, support systems, facilities and environment,

allowing the athletes to focus on doing their best
