The Jersey Panthers joined the rest of the boys golf field at Lakeshore golf course in posing little threat to the Jack-sonville Crimsons.
But the Panthers achieved their primary goal of survive and advance Monday at the Taylorville Class 2A Regional.
Led by junior Davis Hamm’s 86, Jersey was a comfortable third at Lake-shore to earn the final berth to next Monday’s Class 2A sectional at Charles-ton Country Club. Jersey finished at 361, well back of regional champ Jack-sonville’s 319 and Chatham Glenwood’s 336. Taylorville was fourth in the eight-team field at 385.
Crimsons sophomore Brady Kaufmann repeated as a regional medal-ist with a 75, besting junior teammate Aydin Folker’s 76 by one stroke. They
were the only two golfers to break 80.Behind Hamm’s 86, the Panthers
counted a 91 from both sophomore Tyler Noble and senior Collin Fraley and a 93 from junior Clark Norris.
The top three teams and top 10 indi-viduals not on those three sectional qualifiers get to miss another school day with a trip to Charleston. Roxana senior Matt Marcuzzo topped those 10 at-large golfers with an 85, while his Shells’ freshman teammate Jackson Harris claimed a berth as one of five at the cut of 95.
East Alton-Wood River sophomore Carson Reef advanced with a 93, while Civic Memorial sends a pair of quali-fiers to the sectional with sophomores Nick Williams and Jake Cheatham both at 95.
Collinsville Class 3A Regional – While Edwardsville and O’Fallon tied for the Southwestern Conference title – pending a decision otherwise from league ADs – the Tigers liked their tie-break at Arlington Greens Golf Club.
Edwardsville shot 308 to beat O’Fallon (310) by two shots and Quincy
(327) by 19 to win its 13th regional championship. Those three teams advance to the Pekin Sectional next Monday at Lick Creek.
The Tigers were led by runner-up Nate Frey, who matched O’Fallon’s Caden Cannon at even-par 72 before Cannon won a playoff on the first hole. It was a career-beat round for Frey, a senior. Two other Tigers made the top
five with Hayden Moore in fourth at 75 and Trevor Laub fifth at 77. Tyler Jan-son’s 84 also scored for Edwardsville.
Coming in behind Quincy in the team standings was Granite City (332), Bel-leville East (333), Belleville West (344), Alton (360) and Collinsville (391). Alton senior Clayton Pilger earned the final of the 10 individual berths with an 86.
