Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

This summer, your Stewardship Team has worked hard to prepare for a stewardship

cultivation campaign during the fall. In preparation for that campaign, we have decided to invite

the whole community to “House Meetings” during the month of September. I understand that

house meetings have been used successfully several times at Holy Trinity, notably during the

process that called me as your Rector.

The meetings this fall are intended to provide a way by which we might gather and share

thoughts, experiences, and hopes for Holy Trinity, in order to create a shared vision for where

God might be calling us. There will be no pledge cards nor an “ask” at these meetings, but rather

authentic dialogue, listening, and dreaming. I therefore invite your heartfelt presence, along with

an open heart, mind, and appetite for light refreshments and hospitality.

Your Stewardship Team has sent individualized postcards, inviting you to a specific house

(close to where you live) at a specific date and time. I understand a number of these postcards

were mangled in the mail. As such, we have included a list of names and houses in this edition

of the Good Newsletter. Please know that the whole household is invited to the gathering, not

just the name given. This list will also be posted in the Narthex.

Additionally, as most of you know, we have many new members at Holy Trinity from the past

few months. If you did not receive an invitation, please call the office and we will see that we get

you on a list for a meeting. Moreover, there will be a “catch all” house meeting at Holy Trinity on

Sunday, September 20th, from 4-6pm with childcare. Anyone (especially young families) are

invited to that gathering.

I do ask that you RSVP as soon as possible in order to allow those hosting these gatherings time to prepare. I sincerely thank each of the hosts for opening their homes for this great community, and for your Stewardship Team’s hard work. If you have any questions whatsoever, please do not hesitate to contact me.

An Invitation to Shared Ministry from Katherine Whaley

Well, there it is! My last church vestment on the table. I had plans for a couple more---A cope for Christmas, and some extra greens, (the season “after Pentecost” covers half the year, and well, ho hum).We were going to have those, and—and—and. But my body says NO! so they will remain dreams. Or will they? Hey look, can you sew even moderately well? Are you looking for a new way to serve the church? I never said I couldn’t do it at all. Only that I can’t do it alone. You could learn with me and we could work together, and have that Christmas cope and whatever else would add to the beauty of our altar. I learned from pulling apart old vestments because a God Son said “Katherine, make my ordination vestment”! And he laid a yardage of silk linen and yards of blue and gold trim on the table, and I said “Carr, I can’t! I mend jeans and sew shirts. Not this stuff.” And he said, “But Katherine, I want your love in it.” Love. Oh yes, Love. It nearly killed me, but God held my hands, and it got done, and it was full of Love—God’s and mine. And then others came, and it has come to be for me a very special form of love. Now I offer it to you. Could we share it? I’d love that. That’s right—Love! THANK YOU from Patti Dill, The Church Periodical Club Coordinator …..

Dear Holy Trinity, Thank you very much for the generous donation to the CPC! The Church Periodical Club supplies books, magazines, e-books and computer programs free to those who cannot obtain them, it is the gift that speaks volumes. Sincerely, Patti Dill/CPC Coordinator, Diocese of East Carolina Note: Holy Trinity donated $455.00 to the CPC in 2015.

Reports and Updates

Holy Trinity Outreach Support Come in to worship; Go out to serve.

Holy Trinity’s members have long been actively engaged with many parish as well as local non-profit and agency efforts to support those in need in our community, the Diocese and throughout the world. The Vestry, on behalf of the congregation, have provided funding for many of these outreach efforts. Most of the funds sent to outreach projects were the “profits” from Mayfair with some funds coming from the Endowment. This year’s Vestry has implemented a new process to learn about and review proposals for supporting programs where our parishioners are personally involved. At its August meeting the Vestry reviewed proposals and voted financial support for the following: Center for Economic Empowerment and Development (CEED); Child Advocacy Center; Episcopal Farmworkers’ Ministry; Episcopal Relief and Development; Fayetteville Urban Ministry; Holy Trinity Food Pantry; Margaret Willis Elementary School; and Special Olympics of Cumberland County. Some money was retained for needs that may arise for the remainder of the year. If anyone wants to review the Vestry’s criteria for funding outreach programs and get an application to apply for outreach financial support, please contact the church office. August 2015Vestry Highlights

The Vestry meeting was held at Holy Trinity on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at 7:00 pm. The Vestry had a full agenda after a brief summer hiatus! The theme of this year’s stewardship campaign is “Tending Our Garden”. This theme segues nicely from our summer bible school theme based upon the Garden of Eden. Also fast approaching is Rally Sunday to be held on the Sunday following Labor Day weekend, September thirteenth. Father Jeff also announced that Holy Trinity will host a deanery youth event in October. Details will be announced soon! The Vestry approved the first disbursement of Mayfair proceeds under the newly adopted Holy Trinity Outreach Funding Process. After careful consideration by the Outreach committee, the following organizations were recommended and approved to receive outreach funds: CEED (Center for Economic Empowerment and Development), Child Advocacy Center, Episcopal Relief and Development, Fayetteville Family Life Center, Fayetteville Urban Ministry, Margaret Willis Elementary School, and the Episcopal Farmworkers Ministry. Congratulations to the recipients and to the dedicated volunteers who devote their time and talent to Mayfair! By the time of publication of this newsletter, our parish administrator Janice will have returned from her vacation abroad. Please give your thanks to Stephanie who so capably “held the fort down” in Janice’s absence as you welcome back Janice. We are blessed to have such dedicated office assistants! Kasmin Davis, Clerk

GOING OUT TO SERVE ....PARTNERING WITH MARGARET WILLIS

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The MWES Social Worker, Megan Hatem, keeps a ‘clothing closet’ as a resource for children whose families cannot afford to buy school clothes. At this time she needs to re-stock her supply of shoes and belts. Margaret Willis has a uniform dress code and each child is expected to comply as follows:

Shoes must be solid black, white or brown tennis shoe/lace up type. No logos. They can be for girls or boys in any size appropriate to kindergarten age through adult size 8.

Belts must be black and will be worn through belt loops. The “clothing closet” needs child/adult size M and larger.

You can help by donating gently used or new shoes and belts. Bring your items to the Margaret Willis display table in the Narthex. Or, you can choose to help by donating money towards clothing closet/student needs. Make your check payable to Holy Trinity and designate MWES on the Memo line.. Thank you, Barbara Brooks

News from the Food Pantry

It is now August and the Food Pantry is back to its traditional schedule.

We would like again to thank John and Matthew Whiteman and Eric

Fleming for the great job that they did this summer.

I would also like to personally thank June Pearce for her years of

dedicated service to the Food Pantry. I believe that she and Alexa

Haar have taken it to the size it is now. We have a great group of

volunteers that work hard to keep the Food Pantry moving forward. I

would like to thank Sid Garner and Pat Stang for being so understanding and kind as I have

grown into this new role. Much thanks to all that come in to pack bags, distribute bags and do

the shopping. You are all so very awesome!!

Thanks to Mary Mac Shields, I have the numbers for July of 2015. We gave out 160 bags and

served 261 people. With thanks to the preschool, we were also able to give some children

books.

The Campbell Soup Company in Maxton also gave us soup and some canned drinks so we

have been able to provide a little “extra” in the food bags and to offer canned liquids to older

adults. Sid Gardner and Carlon Mercer drove to Maxton to pick up the donation.

My sister, Karen Robertson, and I were very fortunate

this month to go with Sid Gardner and Jim Thomas to

Second Harvest to pick up one of Sid’s orders. It’s an

amazing place and I believe that our involvement with

the program is working out well.
