Ballast Water Treatment

Ballast water is essential for the safe operations of ships. It provides stability and maneuverability during a voyage and during loading and unloading operations. It reduces the hull stress caused by adverse sea conditions or by changes in cargo weight as well as fuel and water. Maritime transport moves more than 90% of the world’s freight and uses up to five billion tonnes of ballast water a year, a figure that is estimated to triple within the next ten to fifteen years. Organisms transported in the ballast water may survive to establish a reproductive population in the host environment, becoming invasive and out-competing native species at risk of total collapse of existing ecosystems. This is considered to be one of the greatest threats to the survival of the oceans by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

A ballast water treatment system is a major investment with a single purpose: ensuring your environ-mental compliance. We overcome these challenges by offering cutting-edge engineering support and tailor made solutions:

• Dorot hydraulic control valves are designed to work in regulation functions without risk of cavitation.• Dorot hydraulic control valves use energy & pressure of the system, avoiding the use of electric or

pneumatic actuators, which turns into energy saving and developing sustainable systems for the environment.

• Dorot hydraulic control valves can be integrated in any automation system or can be controlled by our own controllers (Condor).

• Dorot hydraulic control valves are made of sea water compatible materials like Nickel Aluminiun Bronze, Ductile iron, SST, with special coating and others.

OverviewDOROT’S 300 Series, state-of-the-art automatic control valves are designed to withstand the most demanding requirements of water system control. The experts at DOROT developed this technically advanced valve with capabilities, beyond any other on the market.

Features & Advantages• The capability to regulate near zero flow, as standard on all sizes, eleminates the need for a special low flow

(throttling plug) or valve, while ensuring very low head loss in “fully open” position.

• The flange (face-to-face) dimensions suit ISO Standards.

• The valve has an internal floating shaft, allowing for frictionless operation. The unique design of the shaft provides for easy field maintenance.

• The valve has a resilient seal disc, guided by a frictionless centering device.

• The valve’s body is made of Ductile Iron, withstanding both high hydraulic and mechanical stresses.

• The standard single - chamber valve provides smooth operation in sensitive regulation conditions. When required, conversion from a single to a double chambered valve is easily accomplished through the insertion of Dorot’s innovative separation disc, without the need to remove the valve from the pipeline during the conversion.

• The valve is supplied with a replaceable Stainless Steel seat, which maintains excellent durability against erosion and ensures a drip-tight seal.

• During valve closure the rate slows, preventing potential damage from water hammer or surges.

• The 300 Series includes an optional valve position indicator, attached by a floating connection (ball & socket), resulting in smooth movement, with no wear or tear on the indicator seal.

• Available materials: Ductile Iron, SST, Bronze and Coated Steel, Cast Steel, Cast Bronze or Marine Bronze, Ni Aluminum Bronze and others.

Pressure and Flow Regulation

Model S-300

30-PR Pressure-Reducing ValveThe Dorot Series 300 Pressure-Reducing (’30-PR’) valve, activated by the pressure of the pipeline, The valve reduces high upstream-pressure to a steady, pre-determined and lower downstream pressure, regardless of fluctuations in upstream-pressure or rate of flow. I case the downstream-pressure exceeds the set value, the valve will close drip-tight.

30-PS Pressure-Sustaining ValveThe Dorot Series 300 Pressure-Sustaining (’30-PS’) activates by the pressure of the pipeline. The valve maintain a steady, predetermined pressure in the network, upstream of its location. Should the upstream pressure exceed the required set-point, the valve opens, increasing network flow, thus reducing its upstream pressure. If upstream pressure falls below the required value, the valve closes drip-tight.

30-QR Quick Pressure-Relief ValveThe Dorot Series 300 Pressure-Sustaining (’30-QR’) activates by the pressure of the pipeline. The valve opens instantly when the pressure in the pipeline exceeds the safe level, thus relieving excessive pressure from the network. When the pressure returns to normal, the valve closes slowly, at an adjustable pace.

Air Valves

Dorot Air Valves Solutions for Marine Applications

Presence of trapped air in a pressurized pipeline can have damaging effects on system operation and efficiency. As air pockets accumulate at high points, they reduce the effective cross-section of the pipeline in their location, decreasing the water flow, and increasing energy consumption required to pump the water through, thus reducing the overall system efficiency. A pipeline with many air pockets may impose enough restriction to stop all flow (“airlocks”). The dislodge and movement of the air pockets may change suddenly the fluid velocity, causing pressure surges and pipeline ruptures. Trapped air pockets may also accelerate corrosion in the pipe material, damage water metering devices and cause erratic operation of control valves. Also, when a system is being drained there is a necessity to admit atmospheric air into the pipeline in order to occupy the volume of drained water so to prevent dangerous sub-atmospher-ic pressure in the pipeline that may bring to complete collapse of pipe sections. The use of Dorot Air Valves overcomes all challenges that may occur along a pipeline for a long lasting operational system and most efficient water network. Dorot offers the most reliable solution for Air Valves, in a various range of dimensions and tailor-made mix of materials, from SST, Ductile Iron, reinforced plastic materials and synthetic rubber, corrosion resistant for internal parts (depending on the requirements, Dorot Air Valves can be: Metal, Metal-Plastic, Plastic).

Main Operating Functions:

Kinetic Air / Vacuum Valve• Exhaust large quantities of air from the pipeline when it is filled with water , at low pipeline pressure

(“Kinetic” air-release function)• Admit large quantities of air into the pipe when it is drained, or when the internal pressure drops below

atmospheric pressure due to transient conditions in transient conditions (“Kinetic” anti-vacuum function)

Automatic Air Release Valves• Release small pockets of accumulated air while the pipeline operates under pressure (“Automatic”

air-release function)

Combination Air Valves• A valve that perform the functions of both the “Kinetic” and “Automatic”.
