Status: CompletedMission Category: Historical Missions

Launch Date: February 19, 1987Launch Location: Tanegashima Space Center, Japan

The Marine Observation Satellite (MOS-1) was equipped with three types of sensors: a spectrometer formeasuring visible near infrared radiation, a device for measuring visible thermal infrared radiation, and aninstrument for measuring microwave radiation. These sensors finished sending information on November 29,

1995.

MOS-1b, which had the same functions as MOS-1, was launched as a follow-up and finished its operation

on April 17, 1996.
