    Working ConditionsAustal Ships Apprentices are employed under an Employee Collective Agreement(ECA) and are required to work a 40 hour week, with a choice o roster pattern.

    Some overtime may be required depending on the deadlines and targets that youare expected to achieve during your apprenticeship.

    Austal Ships has clean, sae construction halls that you would be required to workwithin and all potential employees must be committed and ocused on saety.

    This means that you are required to abide by the saety policies and proceduresincluding wearing o Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

    To succeed in this trade, you need to demonstrate the following

    characteristics and skills:> Good hearing and eyesight.> Manual dexterity.> Mechanical aptitude and interest.

    > Ability to work as a part o a team.> Desire to keep up-to-date with changing technology.> Keenness to use tools and equipment to perorm tasks requiring precision.> Ability to solve problems.> Ability to ollow routine procedures.> Strength and stamina to work with heavy tools and materials.

    Pre-requisitesTo gain an apprenticeship in Marine Fitting you are required to have one or more othe ollowing pre-requisites:

    > Year 10 - Level 4 or higher in English, Maths, Science and Design andTechnology.> Year 11/12 - Level 4 in English and C grade in Maths and Science.> Previous work experience in the mechanical area.> Demonstrated interest in the mechanical area.

    > Year 10 - Level 4 or higher in metalwork and/or woodwork subjects.> Previous work experience in the metals industry.> Basic skills in maths and technical drawing/design units.> Demonstrated interest in the metal abrication/welding area.
