Proven skillsPort and Marine projects have been one of BESIX’s most dynamic areas of work since the company was first established.

Tanger Med I, MOROCCO

BESIX focuses on the design and construction of onshore and offshore marine projects: locks, seawater intakes, breakwaters, quay walls, jetties and oil and gas terminals.

Investors are not only attracted by BESIX’s international experience, technical skill and innovative solutions, but also by the marine equipment which the Company owns, enabling work to get started quickly.

Development & innovationThe Engineering Department has been one of the pillars of the BESIX organization for decades.

BESIX Engineering Department is a 140 people-strong in-house engineer-ing team, solely dedicated to the BESIX Group. It provides sustainable tailor-made solutions for clients according to the highest engineering standards. This is obtained by having a close integra-tion between the Design and Methods Department and the site’s technical office, strongly focusing on Constructability and Innovation. The Department uses the latest top-of-the-range calculation software, including Business Information Modelling, and also works closely with International Consultants and hydraulic Institutes.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) helps to better control the generation and man-agement of project information during the entire life cycle of a project. This approach strengthens the collaboration among all stakeholders involved (promoter, engineer-

ing office, contractor, subcontractor...) and results in a more integrated and efficient project development process. Thanks to the rich visual information pro-vided by BIM, interface issues are identi-fied and resolved at an early stage. BESIX Engineering Department uses the latest BIM software applications to facilitate streamlined information genera-tion and exchange.

Constructability is the process by which a project, from its start through construc-tion to final commissioning, develops and adopts a cost-effective design in order to construct the project safely for the lowest practical cost, on schedule, and allowing for factors such as quality, sustainability, operability and maintainability. For BESIX, constructability is based on a continuous, forward-looking and integrated planning approach. This minimises design rework and results in a higher-quality design.

EquipmentWith its specialized plant and equipment, BESIX brings added value to the construction of Marine Projects.

BESIX owns an extensive fleet of marine equipment: two large Self-Elevating Platforms (jack-up barges), two dipper dredgers, split hopper barges, crane and transport barges, tugs and work-boats. This investment in a modern and efficient fleet leads to significant cost savings for clients, as we are not dependent on external hiring.
