ANNUAL REPORT FOR FISCAL YEAR 2011

Sponsored research funding to the University of Baltimore increased substantially in FY 2011, as compared with recent years. This increase is due to a number of new awards, including large subawards from the University of Maryland, College Park for the Small Business Development Center (MSB) and the Governor's Office for Crime Control and Prevention for the Innocence Project (Law).

The amount of indirect costs (IDC) recovered from sponsored research projects during FY 2011 also saw a substantial increase across all academic affairs units. The University of Baltimore recovered $671,648.11 in IDC during FY 2011. This represents an increase of 69% or $274,797.43 over FY2010. This increase can be attributed to a reduced number of IDC waivers since the implementation of the UB Indirect Cost Policy for Research and Special Programs, and more consistent and regular invoicing on grants and projects.(Please note this is IDC recovered and not IDC approved by sponsors).

The State of Maryland (including other USM institutions) and local governments continue to be the greatest sponsors of research activity at the University of Baltimore, constituting 75% of all sponsored award funding and including Federal passthrough. In addition, the share of direct federal dollars fell to 7% in FY2011. In FY 2012 we will continue to encourage faculty to submit proposals to the Federal government.
