‘Kaya' Welcome from the Wadandi people, the traditional Cultural custodians of South West, Western Australia. Kaya Nala Maat Kaya Noonduk (Hello, our family welcomes you) to Wadandi Boodja (Saltwater People’s Country). Whist on Wadandi Boodja (country) we ask that you respect the area and walk softly, while taking the time to listen to the Boodja (Country) as she Wongi Birak (talks of the season). We’re now in Mukuru, the coldest and wettest time of year. It’s a time for nesting, and for the use of fire (karla). Karla is at the very heart of our culture, for the Aboriginal people, karla is of great significance, It’s a centrepiece for family and gatherings but also a daily necessity, for cooking, warmth and light. Sitting round the crackling Karla is not only a good feeling, it helps people relax and become more receptive to conversation and information, which builds stronger bonds with one another, healing our spirituality.

Enjoy the warmth that Karla brings while on Wadandi Boodja.

Message from Hon Paul Papalia CSC MLA, Minister for Tourism and Hon Alannah MacTiernan MLC, Minister for Regional Development

The McGowan Government is a proud sponsor of the Cabin Fever Festival through its Regional Events Scheme.

The scheme was devised as a way for the Government to support smaller and emerging events in regional Western Australia to boost tourism, increase community vibrancy and participation, and develop regional areas.

The Regional Events Scheme plays an important role in positioning Western Australia as an exciting destination to visit and a great place to live by showcasing and promoting a region’s unique and diverse attractions.

Sixty-eight regional events across the State have been funded through the 2019-20 Regional Events Scheme. This year’s round includes the Regional Aboriginal Events Scheme with a funding pool of $150,000 exclusively allocated to events delivering Aboriginal activities and experiences.

Tourism is a key part of the Government’s plan to diversify the economy, create jobs and develop business opportunities, especially in regional Western Australia.

Events play an important role in this plan, with the Government sponsoring a range of sporting, cultural, arts and culinary events across the State, through Tourism WA, to attract more visitors, encourage them to stay longer, disperse further and do more while they are here.

We hope everyone enjoys the event and takes the time to explore the South West region.

Accommodation Grabbing a group of friends and planning a winter weekender this Cabin Fever Fest? Or looking for a cosy couple of days with no interruptions? Either way, get in early to bag your bed for Cabin Fever Festival. Check out our top picks of where to stay.

Forest Rise Chalets and Lodge De-stressing is easy amongst the trees at Forest Rise Chalets and Lodge. You probably won’t see another soul, as each rammed-earth chalet is situated in its own little patch of forest. There’s a wood fire in each chalet, comfy king-sized bed, a cheeky outdoor shower and a candle-lit spa set under massive sky-view windows for stargazing.

In House Holidays Got a group of friends and planning your escape? In House Holidays have loads of private houses in Margaret River, Gnarabup, Prevelly & Cowaramup. There’s architecturally designed homes among the trees, or 180 degree ocean views on the coast, so take your pick!

Margaret River Hotel Sitting pretty right on the Margies main street, the iconic Margaret River Hotel is close to all the action. You may have enjoyed a beverage or two at the Corner Bar before, but did you know there’s a historic hotel filled with charming old-fashioned country pub accommodation right upstairs? Many Cabin Fever events include some form of tipple, so the short stroll to some town-based events makes it an appealing choice.

Whalers Cove Villas Located right on the beachfront in Dunsborough, you can take a few steps across a patch of beautifully manicured grass and you’re on the beach. From here, you can watch storms rolling in across Geographe Bay and lucky punters might even see a whale or two cruising by. The 2-4 bedroom self-contained villas sleep between 2 and 10 guests and many of the villas have wood fireplaces for the full winter experience.
