The Fano Carnival is the oldest carnival in Italy, after the one in Venice, and the most important
festival of the Marche Region, with a presence of over 100,000 people! Every year the large floats
parade along with walking masked characters, with marching bands and folk groups, and during the
parades quintals of sweets and chocolates rain floats by creating the traditional "project"! A
spectacular shower of sweets making the Carnival of Fano the sweetest in the world! Carnival is an
ideal opportunity to visit the lovely town of Fano boasint an impressive Roman historical center
with many monuments, including the famous Arch of Augustus, palaces and churches. The Church
of Santa Maria Nuova hosts the table by Perugino Madonna and Saints, made in collaboration with
the young Raffaello Sanzio; to be seen, is also the baroque church of San Pietro ad Valium, adorned
with stucco, frescoes and gilding. A treat is the Fortune Theatre, built in 1665, and the Civic
Museum, which houses an important archaeological section, while in the Gallery you can see
sixteenth century paintings, including works by Guido Reni and Domenichino.

After the Carnival of Fano, considered the oldest of the Marche, the region is home to the Historical
Carnival of Piceno involving the town of Ascoli Piceno, Castignano, Offida and Pozza. Carnival is
an event that has been repeated for centuries and which is made up of many elements, from shows
to classical Raviolata (Ravioli are a type of dumpling composed of a filling sealed between two
layers of thin pasta dough. Usually served either in broth or with a pasta sauce, they originated as a
traditional food in Italian cuisine. Ravioli are typically square, though other forms are also used,

including circular or semi-circular, called “mezzelune”), in addition to the ever-present awards of
masked groups, to parties for participants and for schools. Concerning the Carnival of Offida, at
nightfall of the Mardi Gras, the ignition and the parade of Vlurd take place! Hundreds of masked
men and women, with long bundles of lit reeds on their shoulders, parade through a "forced" path
running through the main streets of the town. A celebration of singular originality having as
scenery the picturesque medieval village of Offida!

Tipicità is an event that is the well-established for the promotion of Made in Marche excellences
involving all the Vocational Schools for Tourism and Hotel Management or Catering in the Marche
together with farmers' custodians of biodiversity "and that will celebrate his final act in the
Academy of Tipicità 2016. The initiative, entitled "Biodiversity in the kitchen", was planned by
Assam in collaboration with the Marche Region. The theme will be: "Vegetables, the meat of the
future." The three-day Tipicità takes place in March in Fermo. Fermo, an ancient Roman colony,
then lady of castles and city of studies, is now the capital city of important manufacturing districts.
The Roman pools, the cathedral, the Renaissance square, the theatre “dell’Aquila” tell their long
and noble history!

Fritto Misto all’italiana (Italian Style mixed fried food)

“Fritto Misto all’Italiana” is a gastronomic festival that, every year, presents in Ascoli Piceno the
best Italian and foreign fried food produced by an exceptional team of cooks in the large kitchen of

food enthusiasts. The event offers the public of gourmands many events dedicated to the large

The International Festival of New Cinema is one of the most important film festivals in Italy.
Supervised by Giovanni Spagnoletti, after almost 50 years, the Pesaro Film Festival has maintained
its identity of event devoted to the discovery, the platform from which young directors and new
languages take the momentum towards the general public. Overlooking the Adriatic Sea, Pesaro
with its 7 km of sandy beach, offers visitors the opportunity to visit the highlights, such as the Civic
Museums and the great altarpiece by Giovanni Bellini, Villa Caprile, Palazzo Ducale, the House
museum and the theatre dedicated to Gioachino Rossini, Villino Ruggeri in Art Nouveau. The city
houses in the square opposite the sea a famous contemporary sculpture, usually called "ball" of
Pomodoro, a bronze sphere made in 1998 by the sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro for the spherical

Musicultura - Festival of Popular Song and Authors Town: Macerata

The festival Musicultura is a fertile ground for discussion and growth among established artists and
new proposals for the recording industry. The event is an international showcase of quality music of
the most established and prestigious of Italian music, especially for the popular song. The final
evening, which declares the winner of the festival, is held every year in the beautiful arena
Sferisterio in Macerata, one of the most significant works of the late European Neoclassicism.
Macerata is a member of the Cities of Art and Culture Association and definitely worth a visit! In

Inteatro Festival, held between Polverigi and Ancona, last ten days during which are presented
international companies, renowned artists and new talents of theater and dance. Born in 1977 after
the meeting of independent groups, the festival has since then had a role of promotion in Italy and
abroad of the most significant and unique contemporary artistic experiences, showcase for both
established artists and for beginners who thanks to Inteatro find affirmation and professional
achievement. Villa Nappi in Polverigi, headquarters of Inteatro, offers offices, rehearsal rooms and

There comes for the seventeenth consecutive year, the summer appointment with TAU/Ancient
Theatres Unites: a regional exhibition of classical theatre in a pleasant and functional conjugation of
cultural heritage and activities offering the opportunity to enjoy sites of archaeological interest
through shows, by the joint commitment of municipalities, Region, AMAT and Superintendency.
This edition presents eighteen appointments of theatre for children and adults, housed in

Turandot, Madama Butterfly and Aida: from the blue and deep waters of the Mediterranean Sea,
the Sferisterio looks towards the seductive image of the East, the common thread of the 53rd

th August 2017. The Sferisterio follows in Li Madou's
footsteps (Father Matteo Ricci) the Jesuit who sailed from Macerata towards the Far East.
The three-year event "Mappe dell’Anima"(Soul Maps), which began with "Nutrire l’anima”
(Feeding the Soul) in the year of Expo and continued with “Mediterraneo”, ends with the season
2017. Among the latest news for next season is definitely the duo's directorial debut of Stefano
Ricci and Gianni Forte in the opera theatre with the new production of Turandot (21 and 29 July, 4
and 13 August) opening the Festival. Ricci/Forte, a duo of contemporary directors, among the most
appreciated for their extreme and innovative style. Pier Giorgio Morandi will be the leader of the
Marche Philharmonic Orchestra. From China to Japan with Madama Butterfly (22 and 28 July, 6
and 12 August): the second new set scheduled and co-produced with the Theatre Massimo Palermo,
made by the director Nicola Berloffa and making its debut in Macerata with the direction of
Massimo Zanetti. Egypt, historical door between East and West, is the third stop of the trip with

Pesaro, city of Rossini, is once again the city of Popsophia, the Festival of Contemporary Art and of

Rossini Opera Festival – XXXVIII edition

Stage direction will be a leading feature of the XXXVIII edition of the Rossini Opera Festival,
which will be inaugurated on the 10th August 2017. The first production will be by Carlus Padriss -
La Fura dels Baus, the celebrated Catalan group, following their successes in the leading
international theatres, who will stage Le siège de Corinthe, Rossini’s first French opera. The opera
will be conducted by the famous conductor Roberto Abbado. The next will be Mario Martone, a
recent winner of the International Opera Awards for our Aureliano in Palmira, who will revive,
with an entirely new cast, Torvaldo e Dorliska, the successful production of 2006. The conductor
will be the young and rising Francesco Lanzillotta. Finally Pesaro will witness the return of Pier
Luigi Pizzi, an historic presence at the Festival, who will stage a scenically re-elaborated La pietra
del paragone, an opera missing from the Festival programme for no fewer than fifteen years.
Daniele Rustioni, an important name, will conduct. The Festival giovane with Il viaggio a Reims,
together with a rich programme of concerts, meetings and various other events complete the
prospectus, as usual. The Festival will conclude with the Stabat Mater in live video projection in
Piazza del Popolo.
The city of Pesaro is known for its low coast and sandy beaches, its historical and artistic heritage,
rich in monuments of great value, such as: the Ducal Palace; the composer Gioachino Rossin's
birthplace; the Cathedral, with a double mosaic floor. Not to be missed the "new" Civic Museums
hosted at Palace Mosca, a historical building in the heart of downtown within a walking distance
from Piazza del Popolo.

Adriatic Mediterranean Festival

XVII Pergolesi Spontini Festival

Since 2001, in the birthplace of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (Jesi, 1710 - Pozzuoli, 1736) and of
Gaspare Spontini (Maiolati Spontini, 1774 - 1851), it takes place the Pergolesi Spontini Festival.
The XVII edition is held from 1 to September 24, 2017 in theaters, churches, historical and artistic
sites with 15 events including operas, concerts and performances.
Theme of the Festival is "Falso d'Autore": to the discovery of false attributions, disguises, parodies,
imaginary biographies of great artists.
Pergolesi died twenty-six years old, after a few, brilliant years of feverish creativity. Immediately
arises the myth: to increase the publishing market editors print other music with his fashionable
name.
In the nineteenth century the legend becomes the composer into a romantic hero whose unhappy
love are set to music in Naples and Milan.
In the years of the beat generation an American writer resurrects him in a futuristic scientific
program and catapult him in Los Angeles of the XXI century, a vortex of sex, drugs and rock'n roll.
In addition to the false Pergolesi, including the French versions of the authentic Serva padrona and
the apocryphal Maestro di musica, the Festival offers a rewrite of Bach's Stabat Mater, and false
copyright from the eighteenth to the twentieth century, as well as other "imaginary biographies": the
diary of Caravaggio by Andrea Camilleri who becomes an opera with music by Lucio Gregoretti
and a napoleonic delirium of dying Spontini.
Franco Dragone transforms Pergolesi's Stabat into a visionary theatrical performance.
The city of Jesi was designated by UNESCO (1969) as a "model city" for the persistence in the
contemporary urban of the Roman castrum. To discover Jesi, therefore means to dive in a world
rich in history and art evidenced not only by visiting one of the three museums, the eighteenth-
century theater or the historical collection of the Public Library, but also walking in the old part to
admire the medieval city walls and palaces or simply along the weaving of alleys, stairways and

Grape Festival
Town: Cupramontana

This is one of Italy’s most ancient “grape festivals”: the first one took place on 23rd
September
1928 and since then for decades on the first Sunday of October and the three previous days. The
festival witnesses a centuries old heritage of traditions, culture and farming: traditional dances,
including the "ratchet ", are performed by local folk groups; you can also enjoy traditional songs
that were sung during harvest time accompanied by accordions. The members of the neighboring
towns participate in the The Palio of Verdicchio, that is a crushing grape’s race. The floats in the
parade are the key moment of the festival. The stands , locally called "huts ", supply grapes, wine
and the typical produce of the local gastronomy.

Culture and cuisine, the Gilded Bronzes and especially the delicious earth diamond: the truffle!
Pergola's Gold will shine again in October in the main streets of the town, through a long
exhibition-market of food and wine specialities, to the Museum of the Gilded Bronzes, (the
only group of 51 golden bronze in the world),with over 2 miles of exhibitors of local products.
The event is aimed at promoting the excellence of Pergola, the white truffle, whose best
"signatures" will be at the “ House of Truffle” displaying their “ earth diamond” while at the
restaurant "Marche da Mangiare", especially set up in the Old Town and cared by the owner of "Il
Giardino" Massimo Biagiali, special dishes with truffle of the best land tradition will be tasted.
This year the Fair is shaping up full of initiatives and guests, with the aim of promoting the best
food and wine: from the wines such as Pergola Doc to oil, from cheeses to aphrodisiac “Visciolata”
from Pergola, but the protagonist is still the "King of the autumn flavors: the truffle." After the
record turnout of the last edition, Pergola is therefore ready to host ten thousands of tourists from
all over Italy and not only.

Live Nativity Scene Town: Genga

The live nativity scene in Genga is the largest in the world by extension; it covers an area of about
30,000 square meters inside the Frasassi Gorge, in the homonymous Park. The crib was first
performed in 1981 from an idea of some people from Genga. Since then, the "Friends of the crib"
organize two performances a year. The great work of setting up is carried out with passion and
intelligence by the inhabitants of Genga who spend most of their time, skills and expertise to relive
the event that changed the world history. The event is attended by about 300 people, committed to
relive the traditions that have sustained and animated the daily life of this area. Along the path that
leads to the Nativity, shepherds, fishermen and farmers intent on their work, mark the ascent to the
event contemplation being celebrated.

Opening of the Museum dedicated to Frederick II of Swabia

The Museum “Federico II Stupor Mundi” will open its doors during the Spring 2017. It is aimed at
celebrating the figure of Frederick II of Swabia, born in Jesi on 26th
December 1194, and narrate his
influence in the context of local, national and European history. The opening is an initiative of the
entrepreneur Gennaro Pieralisi from Jesi through the Foundation Federico II Stupor Mundi, with the
contribution of the Marche Foundation, the support of the City of Jesi and the Marche Region, and
with the collaboration of Fondazione Federico II Hohenstaufen. The museum is dedicated to the
Swabian Emperor with an Arab heart: the "Stupor Mundi" which was the grandson of Barbarossa,
patron of the arts, as well as a great innovator in the field of law, politics and sciences. It will be a
museum of historical narrative, based on digital collections, multimedia installations and multi-
sensory attractions. Through collaborations, the museum will adopt a mixed media approach based
on new technological tools and "digital assets", and the use of the full potential of multimedia and
multichannel communication, offering a mix of experiences with components both informational
and educational, emotional and entertainment. The premises designated to house the future
museum, Palazzo Ghislieri, is located in Piazza Federico II, one of the most prestigious historic
squares in Jesi. Precisely in this square was born Frederick II of Swabia, the future emperor of the
Holy Roman Empire, who reserved great privileges and honors to Jesi, including the title of Royal
City.

From 2017 to 2019 in Pesaro, the 'City of Music', there will be many celebrations to honour
Rossini. The celebrations are of different types and concern the biography of the composer, 'icon'
of the city, and the anniversaries of his masterpieces. The celebrations will start with "The
Rossinimana" scheduled from February 24th to March 5th : it’s a week dedicated to the "Swan of
Pesaro", including events, concerts, workshops and further activities. The “Rossinimana" will end
with the ideal birthday of Rossini, who was actually born on February 29th! On 27th February when
"Rossini in scena" ( “Rossini on stage”) is scheduled, after 200 years from the composition,
the Rossini Theatre will host "Cinderella", a concert performed by the Orchestra and Chorus
of the Rossini Conservatory of Music, the Rossini Academy of " Rossini Opera Festival ", and
directed by Alberto Zedda. On February 28th the Rossini Theatre will host "Rossini Overture," a
premiere dance performance by the Spellbound company. Do not forget that every Sunday, from
April to September, Pesaro honours the Grand Master with "L'ora di Rossini", that is an hour
during the day, when you can listen to Rossini’s popular music ( "Rossini broadcasts") and enjoy
live events taking place on the balcony of Rossini’s birthplace ( "Rossini in sips"). The celebrations
will also include an exhibition called "Incoronati -images of royalty", which will be open to the
public at Palazzo Mosca, home to the Civic Museum, from 1st July to 15th October 2017. From
9th to 11th June 2017 Pesaro will host a “Rossini International Conference 2017”, organized by
the Rossini Foundation. The Scientific Committee boasts well known musicians, such as Daniele
Carnini, Ilaria Narici, Emilio Sala, Cesare Scarton, Emanuele Senici and Benjamin Walton.
