St. Peter’s Congregation, March 5, 2020

We are writing today to share our concerns regarding our continuing decline in attendance at St. Peter’s. We have

noticed a steady decline in attendance over the past months since Pastor Mews left last year.

We realize that the past few attempts to call a replacement Pastor may be discouraging, but we must remember

that we come to worship our God regardless of who is or even if we have a spiritual leader. We have been

extremely blessed to have a Pastor assigned on a semi-permanent basis which gives us the ability to have

consistent spiritual care i.e. we don’t have to worry about having a different person every Sunday or who will serve

our other needs such as sick/shut-in calls, hospital calls, funerals, baptisms, confirmation instruction, etc.

We are not sure exactly why the attendance has declined. If you have not been attending as much as in the past,

we ask that you examine why we come to worship each Sunday. We come each week to return thanks to our God

and praise him for all he gives and does for us each and every day. We come together as a Christian family to

fellowship and support our other fellow believers as well as praising our Lord and Savior for his unconditional love

of us. It’s community. It’s worshiping with others, praying for others, hurting with others, serving others, being

involved in the lives of others.

I know it may be easy to say someone else such as the Elders or Outreach board should do something about

reaching out to those that we are missing but since we are a congregation of three services, we are not able to

always know who is missing. If you know of someone you have missed please reach out to them and share our

concern about their lack of attendance. If there is a problem or concern causing their absence, please let an Elder

know so this can be addressed. If you cannot reach an Elder in a timely fashion, please call the Church office with

that request.

While we are reluctant to discuss finances in this letter, it must be noted that lower attendance has an effect on our

ability to meet our monthly financial needs and we are starting to notice that effect. This letter is NOT a plea for

money, it is a concern regarding the spiritual health and well-being of our Christian family at St. Peter’s and our

obligation to care for our family at St. Peter’s which we all share.

Please take time to pray about this matter, as it concerns the health of our congregation’s viability and our ability to

remain a “Lighthouse in our Community”.

Thank you,

St. Peter’s Leadership
