COVID-19 VIRUS UPDATE IMPORTANT PLEASE READ
If you have not been vaccinated against influenza, you cannot visit the facility Restricted visits Much has changed in the aged care landscape to escalate the prevention of the virus by regulatory bodies and State and Federal government. As an aged care provider, Kalyna Care has the primary responsibility to detect, notify and manage COVID-19 at our facility and to prevent and be prepared for the unlikely event of the virus breaching our facility. COVID-19 is particularly dangerous for the elderly. You will have seen, read and heard in all media what you need to do to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus including social distancing, hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene (i.e. coughing or sneezing into your inner elbow or disposable tissue). We have sent communication to resident representatives and families of our resi-dents via SMS, Facebook, newsletters and at resident meetings. We are now enforcing restricted visitations during this time which will include your
relatives, friends and families who may not have received direct communication from
Kalyna Care and request for your cooperation as follows:
1. There will be no non-essential visits. Fob-key access will be temporarily deac-tivated.
2. All visitors will undergo screening prior to sign-in and will be confined to the wing of the person you are visiting. You will not be allowed to move between wings. Anyone with a temperature above 37.5C will be asked to leave imme-diately
3. Please do not bring children if you have to visit the facility 4. We ask families to temporarily stop social outings with our residents 5. If you have returned from international travel since 16 March 2020, do not
come to the facility until after 14 days of self-isolation. Please provide evi-dence of return date.
6. If you have been in contact with anyone who have travelled from or through any country in the last 14 days prior to 16 March – please do not visit our fa-cility for 14 days
8. If you have been in close contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and have visited Kalyna Care within 14 days of this contact OR test-ed positive with COVID-19 – please inform Julie Speirs, Manager Care Ser-vices 0411 469 900 OR Pearl Forrester, CEO 0406 424 618 IMMEDIATELY
9. If you or your friends and families have mild flu-like symptoms such as fever or sore throat or dry cough – please do not visit our facility for 14 days
There will be NO bus outings to crowded places. However, Kalyna Care will consider picnics in open spaces such as parks and sight-seeing tours. All external entertainers’ appointments have been cancelled for the foreseeable future. There will be more movie afternoons and indoor activities. All non-essential appointments will be cancelled. The above restrictions are IN ADDITION to the attached Dept of Health restrictions to visitors of aged care facilities. We seek your cooperation during unprecedented times.
Due to the COVID - 19 virus we are
cancelling all entertainers, Community
Morning Teas and Residents and
Representative meetings until further
notice.

The 2019 Life Story Book Launch was held on Friday 21st February in the Kalyan Care Hall with residents and
families. The hall was decorated beautifully with residents made craft. Our Story Book is a unique mixture of
sadness and pain, joys and pleasures. This was a very happy day for all the residents and their families that
took part. Whatever our achievements or challenges our story is

We celebrated International Women’s Day here at Kalyna Care. Our staff and students from college made
flower bouquets which were presented to all female residents. Our residents and staff enjoyed singing songs
and danced and had a great time.
International Women’s Day
It was a beautiful day on the beach.
Residents enjoyed their day watching the
waves and seagulls. We had fish and chips
for lunch on the beach and it was lovely
so see kids playing in the sand.
Day Out at the beach Page 5
On Friday 14th February we celebrated Valentine’s day here at Kalyna Care. We would like thank Grant &
Maryanne from The Music Depot for their beautiful performance. The couple dance was so entertaining
that our residents could not stop themselves from standing up to dance with them. Our residents received
handmade red rose from our volunteers and chocolates. Many thanks to volunteers for lovely decoration as
well.

New Pharmacist – Acher Pharmacy There has been some miscommunication regarding the new pharmacy. You do not need to go to Flemington to make payments. There is a secured box in the reception area to deposit your payment or there is internet banking. Please be advised that anyone not using Acher Pharmacy will not be registered on the medication management system at Kalyna Care and will have to make their own arrangements to collect and deliver the medication for their loved ones. Non-authorised pharmacies will not be allowed onto the premises after hours. Kalyna Care will also not be able to order urgent medication from other pharmacies. Kalyna Care is moving towards a paperless environment with electronic signing of medication administration, and will not run two systems due to cost inefficiencies.
Construction update Significant Refurbishment: The last 7 Konvalyia rooms have been handed over for renovation on 11 March 2020 with an anticipated return at the end of April. The Leisure and Lifestyle and Physio rooms were handed over with positive feedback. The Significant Refurbishment project is estimated to be completed in June 2020. Major Extension: The maintenance shed was handed over in early March to
positive reviews by staff. Our 2 vehicles finally have covered and secured parking
and valuable equipment stored in a well ventilated space. The maintenance
workshop and office was included for maintenance to operate efficiently to
ensure the company maintains compliance in facilities management. The new
Frost Drive car park is fob accessed for added security for staff. The new laundry
is expected to be handed over in end-March with much anticipation by staff. The
café is expected to be handed over in early April. There has been significant
delays due to latent issues and inclement weather, however the builder and
Kalyna Care continue to work to resolve these matters.
