now for next year February 12, 2016 -
as much out of your Chamber as possible, get involved! Together, I know we will and grow the

Spring is finally upon us and we, at the Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce are preparing for our 16th
Annual Spring Sprint 5K/10K at Lisle Community Park, on Sunday, March 22nd. This is the same beautiful

in November. The professionally timed race begins at 9am. Awards will be given to the first three finishers in five year age
groups. The overall male and female winners will receive a highly coveted trophy. The first 300 to register will receive a running tech
shirt. Please contact us at [email protected] or 630-964-0052 for further information. You may register online at active.com.
Another major event for the Chamber is our Multi-Chamber
luncheon. Nineteen Chambers of Commerce will be in attendance. This is a terrific opportunity to connect with other likeminded
scoop of an entrepreneurial dream that was made into reality. Dave Alwan founder Echo Valley Meats, Inc. who was featured on Shark
Tank will be sharing his story with us. Echo Valley Meats has met
success by using common sense judgment and hard work, leading
by example, giving back to the community and above all finding passion in life. We know you will be inspired by his adventure. The
West Suburban Multi-Chamber Event is on March 26, 2015 at
at 10:30.a.m.; which is open to the public. Lunch is $35.00 to
members of any of the participating chambers and $50.00 to future members.

AMBASSADOR SPOTLIGHT M ARK ACQUAVIVA
WEST SUBURBAN MULTI -CHAMBER LUNCHEON (19 CHAMBERS)
RIBBON CUTTING
Mark Acquaviva of Performance Merchant Services, LLC has been a Lisle Area Chamber of Commerce member since May 2011. He got into the merchant
services business in February 2000 an industry that has seen significant
changes over the years due to technology, personal data, and information
security taking center stage. Mark answers questions and offers merchants cost effective solutions to reduce costs and increase productivity.
Mark signed on as a Chamber Ambassador in 2012 a role he says is very satisfying because it gives him the opportunity to enrich the personal and professional lives of new and existing
members. He feels that getting people involved and engaged in the community produces
lasting personal and professional relationships. In addition to his involvement as an
Ambassador, Mark volunteers his time for Lisle Executive Networking Group (LENG), the golf
committee, and the Ale Fest committee. His dedication as a Lisle Area Chamber volunteer
resulted in him being awarded Volunteer of the Year in 2014.
Mark moved to Lisle with his family in 1990, eventually settling into The Meadows subdivision. He became very involved in Lisle baseball and coached his son, Nick, during his travel baseball years. He offers this piece of advice
very happy with the results.

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITEE

Assembly on February 4, Governor Bruce Rauner rolled out what was largely an agenda of Republican initiatives including reducing local government taxing bodies, a two-year freeze on property taxes,
to increase the minimum wage over a seven-year period paired with other concessions to small businesses to ease the pain of such an increase. What remains unclear is how many of these initiatives the newly-elected governor can implement in a super-majority Democratic General Assembly.
As a Chamber member and business owner, you are probably aware of the dire fiscal mess Illinois is in.
Debt Clock has each Illinois resident owing $12,544 PER PERSON. (http://www.usdebtclock.org/state-debt-clocks/state-of-illinois -debt-clock.html)
Many of us feel powerless to make any change these days, an attitude that is seen most clearly in continued low voter turnout at election time. At the very least, make an effort to stay informed and on top of political actions as they unfold. The easiest way to do that at the state level is to utilize the Illinois
-friendly website as a go-to resource to track legislation and view Senate and House meetings in real time. Go to www.ilga.gov to find the text of bills filed in both the Senate and House, as well as to find contact information for your state legislator. The Live Audio/Video link allows you to watch session meetings. A comprehensive monthly, weekly and daily schedule of both the Senate and House can be found on this website as well.
The Chamber Government Affairs committee meets the first Thursday of each month to get a briefing of what is going on at the local, county, state and federal levels. Action items that impact small businesses gleaned from these meetings will be communicated to you as they arise. If you have any questions or concerns for this committee, please contact our newly-installed committee chair, Jay Adelberg at
Knowledge is power. Our legislative process was designed for constituent input as a way to give us (an ideally) measured, fair and balanced representation. To ignore your constitutional invitation to let your voice be heard is a most egregious way to nullify your power.
