MODOC GOLD ALL AROUND! ON TO SECTIONALS!

Modoc County 4-H held their annual County Presentation Day in Bieber, CA on Satur-

day 2/22/2020 Over 60 presentations were entered, 45 of these qualified to move on to

North Area Presentation Day. Modoc County 4-H will be this year’s host for the North

Area Presentation Day on March 14th in Cedarville. 4-H youth from all over Northern

California that qualified at their County’s Presentation Day will be there. Members pre-

sented on everything from Hot Air Balloons to Vex Robotics. Presentations given were

Illustrated talks, Demonstrations, Educational displays, Persuasive Speeches, Informative

Prepared Speeches, Science/Engineering Presentations, Cultural Arts, Interpretive Read-

ings and a Share the Fun Skit. 4-H members impressed the judges with their knowledge

and professionalism while speaking. The results of these members hard work paid off

with a string of Gold Awards.

Presentation Day is a special day for Modoc County 4-H. It brings youth and families

from across our county to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of our youth in

Presentations. It offers a unique opportunity for youth and adults to network with mem-

bers from other clubs. One of 4-H’s primary goals is programming for positive youth de-

velopment; and it is designed to give youth the opportunity to improve life skills. Gaining

and improving skills such as leadership, communication, critical thinking, problem solv-

ing, self-responsibility, cooperation, and teamwork can serve to give an individual a strong

foundation for further growth and development.

We would like to extend our thanks to Providence 4-H for hosting this event. Huge

thanks to our Big Valley community members who gave up their Saturday to come and

Judge for us. Modoc 4-H Members are the only members in the state that receive cash

awards for their efforts in Presentation Day and Home Economics Day. This is only pos-

sible because of the generosity of the Milano Foundation. “Mark & Jessie Milano really

believe in the 4-H program and that it is building the leaders of tomorrow.” Said Sadie

Camacho- Modoc County 4-H Program Rep. “They really want to encourage our mem-

bers to participate in things that might take them out of their comfort zone but will teach

them valuable life skills like public speaking.” Great Job Modoc! Keep up the Good

work!

Bieber 4-H

The Bieber 4-H participated in the 8th grade bazaar, where the arts and crafts members built some Christmas

decorations to sell. Our club has been busy during these past months. We

had another successful year, with our annual mandarin’s sale. Leilani Barba, Ahtziri Barba, Jocelyn Barba, and Maddie Babcock participated in the county 4-H club awards. Also, our group participated in

the Veteran’s lunch and crab feed. During our award night we welcomed new members and we

recently did our club presentation night on Feb. 3, our group did an amazing job. We began talking

about HED and we are motivating our club to participate in this event.

New Pioneer 4-H

New Pioneer 4-H has been busy these past few months . Projects are now in full swing, club members have been busy preparing for Presentation day and our Club has been doing community service projects at our meetings. In January our club collected canned food and then donated them to “Teach”. In the photo we were making Valentine’s day card for “Warnerview” and delivered them on Valentine’s Day. Our club is also getting ready to host HED May 16th at the Veterans Hall in Alturas. This years theme is “Willy Wonka”. The HED Planning Committee has been very busy adding fun Classes to enter in the HED hand-book. Look for it to come out in March. Yours respectfully, Elora Camacho New Pioneer 4-H Reporter

Tulelake 4-H On December 8th, 2019, the Tulelake 4-H Club went Christmas Caroling through Tulelake. Before we caroled, we held our monthly club meeting, and then gathered for a spaghetti dinner. Shortly after, all of the kids bundled up against the cold and gathered supplies. With some help from the adults, the kids decorated the trailer we used to ride on

while caroling. We strung lights, made hot chocolate, and hooked up a speaker so the kids could sing along with the music. Block after block, the kids sang for the community in Tulelake, and handed out candy canes. We enjoyed our time singing, laughing, drinking hot cocoa, and sharing Christmas cheer. This is an annual event we all look forward to, even when we have freezing weather . Spencer Sues Tulelake 4-H Reporter

Davis Creek 4-H Davis Creek 4-H held it's annual Groundhog day dinner Saturday February 1st. Everyone had a great time! We raised money for our club with desert sales and items donated by the community being auctioned off. Thanks to everyone who volunteered and donated items for making the night a huge success! Modoc District Centennial Fair

4-H and FFA members are invited to get ready to celebrate “A Century of Modoc Memories” at the Modoc District Centennial Fair during August 27-30, 2020. This year the outstanding booth en-tered by a school, 4-H Club, FFA Chapter or other youth group will be eligible for a cash prize of up to $250.00. Also new this year will be a historical display of the Fair’s 100-year history, including a look at past Fair Queens, and a branded wood display featuring many of the area’s cattle ranch brands.

Back this year will be the Carnival, Horse Show, Sheep Dog Trials, Companion Dog Show, Junior Rodeo and kid’s rodeo, including the popular greased pig con-test, and a Stock Car Show, among many more. Modoc County youth are invited to enter and attend this year’s fair. Along with still exhibits such as photography, baking, floral arrangements and gardening, this year’s fair will feature a livestock show which is a great venue for youth to showcase your breeding stock. The Fair Premium Book will be available begin-ning in late April to provide you with more time to plan and prepare the exhibits you would like to enter. Please plan to help us celebrate the Modoc District Fair’s 100th birthday by mak-ing it one of the best fairs ever! Enter the projects you have been working on throughout your 4-H (or FFA) year, come to the fair, enjoy the many events, and spend special time with friends and family. We look forward to seeing you there!
