Our Lenten Parish Share program is off to

a good start throughout our parish grouping.

Thanks to all who have already participated.

Remember, any funds collected in excess of

each parish’s assessment remain in that parish and are

not subject to further assessment. Parish Share is always

an excellent opportunity to not only help with all of the

ministries in our diocese but with the needs of individual

parishes as well.

Enclosed in this bulletin is the letter from Bishop Zubik

to all of the faithful concerning changes in the distribution

of the Precious Blood and the Sign of Peace. It is our

hope and prayer that all stay safe and healthy during this

time of concern about the coronavirus.

The fish fries in our parishes, at St. Valentine and St.

Gabriel, have gotten off to a great start. Please stop by

and enjoy a fish dinner with fellow parishioners and

members of our broader community!

As the season of Lent progresses, you are invited to fill

out a purple slip and place it on the crosses in our

churches if you have not already done so.

Many of the young people in our area have been

participating in diocesan sports programs in recent

months, especially basketball, with high schoolers from

our area participated in CYO basketball for St. Germaine,

St. Gabriel and St. Valentine parishes. All three of our

teams made the playoffs with St. Gabriel’s winning both

the diocesan and state championships. In St. Gabriel

School the varsity girls basketball team won the diocesan

championship last week. As the recent popes have

written, sports are a great way for all to enjoy the good

gifts God has given us and to learn many valuable life

lessons. Congratulations to all!

ANNUAL BASKETBALL CLINIC

The Jimmy Griffith Legacy Foundation is host-

ing its 11th Annual Basketball Clinic and 3 on 3

Tournament at Marist High School on Saturday,

March 21 in honor of my son, Jimmy, who

passed away in September, 2009 at the age of

23. We have netted over $330,000 over the

past ten years (we had a yearly benefit in addi-

tion to the basketball) and have paid it all for-

ward in his name to St. Bede, McAuley & Marist

High Schools, Samford University, and AHA to

name the main beneficiaries. We’d love a big

turnout again! Thank you, Marge Griffin, Proud

Mother of Jimmy.

THE WHITEHALL HOUSE (located behind John F. Slat-

er Funeral Home) will host a Grief Talk with Laurie

Sweeney, on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 7 pm. Lau-

rie Sweeney is no stranger to grief. In 2013 her 17

year old son died suddenly. Laurie’s faith never left

her. While deep in grief, she still took notes of the

amazing things that were happening around her.

Come hear Laurie’s inspirational story on how she

created a good life after a devastating loss. Please

WIDOWED, DIVORCED OR SEPARATED?

The loss of a spouse is a traumatic experience. The Beginning Experience ministry

provides a weekend program intended to help widowed, divorced or separated men and

women work through grief and move forward with their lives. The next weekend program

is March 27-29, 2020 at the Martina Spiritual Renewal Center, 5244 Clarwin Avenue, West

ST. GABRIEL MEN'S GOLF LEAGUE

All are invited to join the St. Gabriel Men’s Golf League. Membership is limited to all men who belong to the

South Hills Catholics Grouping 218 (St. Gabriel, St. Germaine, Nativity, and St. Valentine).

Current membership is at thirty-three with men from three of the four churches in the Grouping. The Men's Golf

League is preparing for another exciting summer on the links with the league season beginning on Tuesday,

April 7th, at 9 am and continuing every Tuesday morning through the end of summer. The golf league rotates on

a weekly basis to five area courses (Rolling Green, Cedarbrook, Chippewa, Scenic Valley, and Lindenwood). Our

members have a wide range of skill levels.

Dues are $35 for the year plus weekly green fees. The golf league is a great

way for men of the four churches to meet, renew old friendships, and develop

new ones while navigating the links.

A league breakfast kickoff meeting will be held on Monday, March 9

Inviting all youth from Nativity, St. Germaine, St.

Valentine and St. Gabriel for a fun and exciting

evening of discussion on Lent and the Passover.

This will be a great opportunity for our youth to

learn more about the Lenten Season.

Also, we have an important upcoming event on

Sunday, March 22 at 12 Noon—SEDER MEAL—We

will experience a Seder meal, which is the tradi-

tional Jewish Passover meal that is served at the

start of Passover. We will learn about this sym-

bolic celebration as it retells the story of the Ex-

odus from Egypt.

the sacraments and the clergy develop? Who took over the leadership of the Church after the

moms of babies born at Jefferson Hospital. The

new books and bibs need to be non-gender specific

(can be for a boy or girl).

ongoing collection throughout the year.

POP AND BEER CAN TAB COLLECTION

We invite parishioners from our parish grouping to

collect pop and beer can tabs. The tabs allow

parents to remain free of charge while their child is

in Children’s Hospital.

Collection boxes are located in the back of St.

Gabriel Church. The Rectory will also accept tabs

during office hours.
