EASTER MESSAGE

Today with the whole Church we repeat: “Christ is risen. Alleluia!” He who suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried, rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. We repeat them with the same faith with which they were said for the first time; on the third day Christ rose again.

It is a day of joy because of a new life that we have received in Christ through the sacrament of Baptism. It is a day of joy because we have new brothers and sisters in Christ who have come home by receiving Baptism. It is a day of joy be-cause it is the time of the year when many, after having been absent for some time, return to Jesus through the sacrament of Confession and the Eucharist. It is a day of joy when all the saints and angels in heaven rejoice with us because The Lord has risen indeed!

As Christ enters the Upper Room, though the doors were shut, he greets his disciples with the words: “Peace be with you.”Peace be with you.”Peace be with you.”Peace be with you.” These are the first

words of his Easter message. How great is the good in this peace that he gives us, that the world cannot give. Peace as the fruit of fundamental order, as the expression of respect human life, truth, freedom, justice and love. Peace of conscience and peace of hearts. For all, especially for the least and the poor, we proclaim today the hope of peace. How many people in the world are still subject to misery and violence, how many are persecuted, abused and killed every day. May the Lord in his goodness open your minds and hearts so that you may believe the good news of Christ’s victory over death. May the splendor of his resurrection scatter the shadows of death, and enable you to walk in radiant hope towards the kingdom, where there is no more false hope or broken dreams. May the peace and joy of this Easter season remain with you throughout the year!
