Dear Friends in Christ, There is a new Catholic Study Program coming soon called “Seven Deadly Sins and Seven Lively Virtues”. It begins on Tuesday, March 12th and I highly rec-ommend it for Lent. The program is presented by Bishop Barron concerning the seven deadly sins, those great spiritual blocks that inhibit our flourishing in relationship with God and one another. The program is based on Dante’s writings, the seven deadly sins correspond to the seven stories of Dante’s Mt. Purgatory. Pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, avarice and lust are all presented as patterns of dysfunction within us that lead to unhappiness. However, Bishop Barron shows us how to counteract these seven sinful patterns through a conscious process of opposition, which are the “seven lively virtues." The seven lively virtues offer antidotes to each sin and help set us on the right path to healing and happiness. The study is as easy or as difficult as you would like to be. There is a video presentation with Bishop Barron at the start of each session and then discussion. You can take home extra study materi-als if you would like to dive deeper into what the Lord is telling you. Please prayerfully consider attending. It will be held in the Rectory Conference Room at 6:30pm each Tuesday, facilitated by Donna Haney. To register, contact Kim Lehman (me) by text or email so that I can mark you down. The cost is a suggested donation of $20. All are welcome! Blessings,

From Msgr. Frank Chiodo
My Dear Parishioners, This week we welcome Fr. Guthrie Dolan to our parish as the Parochial Vicar. Fr. Dolan has been assigned at this time of the year—-it is usually July—-because the Bishop has given Fr. Dolan cer-tain responsibilities that require his presence in Des Moines. Earling, where he has been serving as pastor, is two hours away and due to the nature of the duties the bishop is assigning him, the bishop decided to have him in Des Moines. The Bishop considers Fr. Gehler a perfect replacement for Fr. Dolan in Earling. The length of this assignment will be determined by the new bishop. Today is the kick off to our Annual Diocesan Appeal which is being taken up throughout the Diocese of Des Moines. The Annual Diocesan Appeal gives us the opportunity to act together as a Diocesan family and support programs and services no single individual or parish can offer. Every gift, regardless of the size, is vital to the success of the appeal. Our goal this year is $138, 920. and that we have 100% participation. In order to achieve this, each of you is asked to give in accordance with your means. The Lenten season is upon us beginning this week. Ash Wednesday Masses will be 7:00 & 8:30am, 5:30pm English, 7pm Latin, & 8:30pm Spanish. I thought it would be helpful to remind all of us the importance of Fasting and Abstinence. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are the major days for fasting in general for those who have reached the age 18 and are not yet 60. Abstinence means no meat on those days for those who are age 14 and over. General canon law says that all Fri-days are days of abstinence-no meat-but if you want to eat meat, you should substitute some other form of penance. The US rules for abstinence from meat includes all Fridays during Lent; Fast (small meals, no snacks) + Abstinence (as in uni-versal rules-no meat) on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Each Friday of Lent there will be Stations of the Cross at 6pm. It is my hope that this will be a faith fulfilling Lenten season for all of us. As in the past we will have a Fish Fry on each Friday of Lent starting March 8th and ending April 12th, in the parish hall starting at 5:00pm. I encourage you to enjoy each others company at Mass, the fish fries and Stations of the Cross. Have a Blessed week.
