It lay thirteen thousand feet below the sea for over 70 years until Robert Ballard found its wreckage. Since its discovery, there have been traveling exhibits around the world that display some of the articles that have been recovered and preserved. As one walks among the artifacts, there is a reverent feeling that comes over you as you pass the former possessions of those who died so long ago. These possessions include bottles of perfume, clothing, jewelry, candleholders, china plates and bowls, forks, knives, and spoons, old pocket watches, safes, guns, and many other articles that belonged to those who were taken by the sea so long ago. If you have never gotten to experience this display, there is a final room to the exhibit. In this room are the names of those who died inscribed in alphabetical order on glass plates. If you look closely, you will notice the scarcity of females on the list. In fact, while only 114 women and 56 boys and girls are named, 1339 men are remembered to have died on that tragic night. Why this disproportion? Because most of the husbands and fathers gave their lives to save their wives and children. It was one of History’s most stirring examples of sacrificial love. Those doomed men that night disappeared into the icy waters of the Atlantic in order that their loved ones might survive to see another day. That’s why this exhibit is referred to as the “Ship of Widows.” Would the men of our generation do the same? Or have we been desensitized by most of the “men are fools” propaganda that is advertised on television, the internet, greetings cards, magazines, and the radio? Men: What do we truly care about? What do we intend to pass onto our children as being most important? When Paul wrote about the Christian Household in his letters, he expected his men to take a leadership role by being willing to die for their family members. Does our family expect this from us? Do our lives mirror this kind of behavior? Ladies: What do you truly care about? How do your children see their father? How long will you tolerate a society that tears down not only the man but his role in our families? What will people say about the men of our generation? What will be their exhibit? Will they be remembered for foolishly spending their lives or giving them for others? We can’t change the world if we are laughing with it. I Love you all, Adam Children’s Church and Nursery Children’s Church is provided for children ages 3-10. We will let you know when it is time for your child to be dismissed for class. Volunteers this week are: Chrystan Lyle, Raquel Funes and Ethel Craig. Our new nursery is located through the Fellowship Hall, turn left, and it is right beside the kitchen.

*** Please be seated toward the front of the auditorium*** The “Ship of Widows”

On April 15, 1912, over fifteen hundred people either drowned or froze to death when the Titanic sank near the Arctic Circle.

I Love you all, Adam
