We attended the Hooked on healing ride at Desert Wind Harley- Davidson. This ride is in its 4th year and helps raise funds to Healing Vets to support the work of the Phoenix Program, Project Healing Waters Fly-Fishing. Project Healing Waters Fly-Fishing was first established at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. Project Healing Waters Fly-Fishing currently has 205 operational programs in all 50 states. The Project Healing Waters Fly-Fishing program is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly-fishing and associated activities, such as fly tying and rod building classes and local fly-fishing outings. Participants had a chance to win a Harley-Davidson during the poker run. Unfortunately there wasn’t a match for the hand, but the next best hand was three aces, and the winner received $200. The Breakaway band entertained the crowd all afternoon, and MC Brad Perry, of the morning show The Daily Mix, spent time with attendees and created a fun event!

We supported ABATE at Day at the Dome at the state capitol. This year, with a lot of support, the lawn was packed with riders. Many showed up to speak with the local legislature regarding bills that were scheduled for committee the following day.

We attended the second annual Down N Durdy ride at Desert Wind Harley-Davidson. It was a chilly morning, but the sun was out, and the day was beautiful with a lot of fun stops along the way. The final stop was at What the Hell Bar and Grill.

1. Never give a recorded statement to the insurance company of the other driver. This can be used against you.

2. Make sure your injuries are documented. When it comes to a personal injury claim, you must document the pain to support your claim. See a medical doctor and have your pain treated.

3. Ensure that your medical care is consistent. Insurance companies will look to see if there are gaps in your med-ical care. Attend all of your appointments and have your pain fully treated. Insurance companies may argue that your pain came from something other than your collision if you do not seek consistent care to eliminate your pain, and testimony from your friends and family may not be enough to convince an insurance company, judge, or jury that your injuries came from the collision.

4. Document lost wages. Insurance companies will not automatically pay you back for lost wages. It is necessary to have documentation from your doctor and your employer that shows you are unable to work as a result of the collision.

5. Never sign a medical authorization. An insurance company may ask you to sign a medical authorization. Make sure to never give an insurance company a form with a blank that they may fill in. It is best to discuss forms with your attorney first before signing anything.

Mark is available to speak for FREE to groups of all sizes about the motorcycle laws in Arizona. Contact [email protected] to schedule your date today! Hurry, his weekends fill up fast!Legal RumblesThis month we wanted to feature a nonprofit organization dedicated to motorcycle riders. We sat down with Laurie Easton, founder of bikerdown.org. Laurie started BikerDown in 2011 after watching friends go down-not just on TV but as an eye witness. She watched friends receive news about injuries, rehab, and therapy. Many of these friends were overwhelmed, and so were their families.

After accidents, people worry about losing their jobs and paying their bills and how to afford the care they need, such as medical equipment (wheelchair, shower seat, hospital bed, crutches) and more. She realized there was a need to raise funds for these riders. Many riders in every state help raise money for various causes including cancer, kids, veterans, and animals, but there wasn’t a charity out there to help riders in need. She listened to what these riders needed and created a simple, yet powerful, mission statement. Brand messaging spread quickly through social media.

In the first year, bikerdown.org helped 30 riders in Colorado, and last year the number was up to 200. Bikerdown.org has now branched out to California, Nevada, and Arizona. Laurie believes knowledge is power in addition to having the right insurance. Her career in the legal field made her very knowledgeable about the process, how to ease people’s fears about losing their homes, their rights, and staying above water. What can be done to keep from sinking? She advises riders to be proactive and speak with an attorney right away. She explains the difference between hiring an attorney and having a great attorney-what does the attorney have to offer? Are they your cousin? Do they specialize in personal injury? Are they certified in their specialty? What are their reviews like? Take pictures of your injuries and keep notes in a journal. When it’s all said and done, the first six weeks after an accident can be very foggy.

Bikerdown.org donates motorcycle urns to families and they offer membership services on their website and a lot of useful information. To learn more, visit www.bikerdown.org
