State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has placed purchase orders for 156additional towers to strengthen its network in areas affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE). The operatoris reportedly spending Rs 2.75 billion, which includes capital expenditure and operational expenditure fora period of five years for the installation of the towers.
According to BSNL, the additional towers would be installed in various states including Bihar, Jharkhand,Orissa, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh. The installation is likely to be completed by July2017.

BSNL to invest Rs 1 billion to upgrade its network in the Kolkata circle
State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is planning to invest Rs 1 billion toupgrade its existing 2G/3G network in the Kolkata circle.
According to BSNL, existing technology in the circle had limited data carrying capacity and the upgradationis being mainly done to increase the data speed offered by BSNL. Further, the operator also plans to set-up1,000 additional base transceiver stations (BTS) to improve the signal availability across the circle.Moreover, BSNL also plans to improve the mobile connectivity inside metro rail tunnels in the Kolkata circle.
