The most popular model for acquiring eBook titles is an ownership model. EBSCO offers flexible ownership options based on the number of simultaneous users that you want to establish for each title purchased. No matter which option you choose, the titles you purchase are owned in perpetuity—patrons can always access the title.

One User (1U)

Provide patrons access to titles, one user at a time….

When your eBook check out expires, it is removed from the Checkouts area of your My EBSCOhost folder and the title is made made available to other patrons of your institution.

63

What is the difference between PDF and ePub when downloading eBooks?

When downloading EBSCO eBooks, you may see the ability to download eBooks in either PDF or ePUB format for some titles.

eBooks in EPUB format provide the user with what is called reflowable text. Reflowable text automatically adjusts to the size of the viewing screen and the size of the text, much like a mobile website. For this reason, EPUB provides a superior reading experience when downloaded to mobile devices and eBook reading devices

PDF does not allow you to adjust the text size on these devices.

64

How long is the duration of an eBook online reading session?

When eBooks are read online, they are "checked-out" for a period of time that typically expires after 30 minutes of inactivity. While reading eBooks online, you can prevent the reading session from expiring by any action that updates the eBook (e.g. turning the page, etc.)When reading eBooks online:eBooks that are read online are considered "checked-out" and may not be available to other members of your institution until your online reading session has ended. When reading multiple eBooks online, reading sessions expire in the order that they were opened. For example: If you check out two books, the first at 1:00pm and the second at 1:02pm, each with a session expiration of 30 minutes, the reading sessions will expire at 1:30pm and 1:32pm, respectively.Note: An eBook online reading session is independent of a session searching or browsing the EBSCO eBooks database which may have a different duration and expiration after a period of inactivity.
