A lot of changes are happening around Lakewood right now, from the construc-tion of new restaurants to street construction. Two Creeks is no exception.
After many neighbors voiced a concern about the dangerous walking conditions around Sheridan Blvd., TCNO researched the problem and gathered photographs to present to city council. Because of this effort, we are excited to share that sidewalks are scheduled to be designed this year with construction to begin in 2016!
Also, you can expect the traffic signal at 14th and Harlan to be removed and re-placed with one at 14th and Lamar. We will keep you informed as we find out more.
Sprout City Farms is excited to announce that we
will be expanding Mountair Park Community Farm
(MAP) this spring, incorporating the lower triangle
located just a few feet west of the current farm site.
The new site will include fruit trees (apples, pears,
and cherries), berry bushes, grape vines, a larger
shade structure for workshops and events, outdoor
musical instruments, play areas for the kids, sensory
gardens, and additional food production beds. We are
still in the process of planning the new space and
value your opinions. We would love to hear sugges-
tions or ideas from our Two Creek neighbors regard-
ing the expansion site.
We are also excited to announce that CSA sign up is now officially open! Same as last year, sign up for veggie, fruit, and egg shares through our website. CSA pickup this year is Mondays at the farm from 4-6pm, June 30-October 20. We'll run distribution a little earlier in the evening this year, and we're start-ing the season later and ending later so you get a bet-ter variety of crops! We have raised the price closer to the market rate ($300). In addition, the farm is still looking for interns to help with the coming season. If you know anyone young or old that wants to learn every aspect of run-ning an urban farm please direct them to the website: sproutcityfarms.org.
COLFAX & 10TH
AVENUE
CLEAN-UP Every year since the Colfax Marathon began, Two
Creeks Neighborhood, along with
members of the West Colfax Com-
munity Association, area citizens and
businesses, has participated in spruc-
ing up Colfax for this event by pick-
ing up trash along the Marathon
route. We meet at the Lamar Station Plaza (JCRS
shopping Center) just to the west of the Burger King
on West Colfax and Marshall at 7:30 AM. This year
the Clean- Up is set for Saturday, May 9th. This is the
Saturday before the week of the Marathon which is
Sunday May the 17th. If we have enough help we are
usually done by 10:00 AM. Assignments for areas to
clean up and instructions are given when you check in
at the Lamar Station Plaza in the AM. Gloves, vests
and trash bags are provided. If you have a pick up
tool and want to bring it that is helpful.
After the clean-up on Colfax, TCNO members
move over to 10th Avenue and clean-up 10th from
Sheridan to Lamar. We meet at 10th and Gray to start
this project and again assign areas. This is usually
done by 11:30 AM.
If you are interested in participating in any of these
events please notify Maddie Nichols by phone 303-
237-0054 or email [email protected].
Two Creeks also has a booth at the Marathon on
Sunday May 19th and we pass out oranges to the run-
ners. We invite folks in the area to come and meet
your neighbors and have fun encouraging the runners.
It’s also great to see Colfax closed off with no traffic.
This event is usually over by 11:30 AM.
Come and participate in these worthwhile and fun
events!
The Scoop
From The City
If you would like to reach out and help your neighbors, the Paint-A-Thon, again, will need an army of volunteers of all ages, professions and per-suasions to help make a difference. The experience is rewarding beyond words. Check out the Paint-A-Thon Central page on our web site, www.brothersredevelopment.org, for details, forms and ideas. Questions? Call or email Chad Nib-belink.
For those who want to be a BIG part of making a difference but can’t physically help, you can choose to become a sponsor. Sponsors can choose from a menu of giving levels: From “Adopt-A-Home at $500 to Presenting Sponsor at $10,000, with five levels in between.
A series of 2015 events offer a variety of oppor-tunities to leverage sponsor participation and maxi-mize their return on investment – beginning with the Open House in April, continuing all summer long – including the August Mammoth Paint-A-Thon week-end – and into the fall.
To learn more about the Paint-A-Thon and bene-fits for sponsors at each level, contact Fund Develop-ment Coordinator Cyndi Goodman at 303-685-4208 or [email protected]. Thanks to Brothers Redevelopment, a non-profit
organization dedicated to compassion and sustainabil-ity, Senior homeowners can apply now for the 2015 free Paint-A-Thon.
In its 37th season of the Paint-A-Thon, Brothers Redevelopment is on pace to paint Home No. 7,000 this year. Last season, more than 2,500 volunteers worked a combined 19,979 hours to paint the homes of seniors with limited incomes. Over 100 homes in 19 cities across seven counties were painted.
Brothers plans to again paint more than 100 homes this year. Anyone can nominate a senior for the free Paint-A-Thon and senior homeowners are encouraged to apply themselves. To qualify, individu-als must be 60 years or older, own and occupy their own home and plan to live in it at least one more year. They must also have a limited income and be financially unable to hire a house painter. The home can’t be taller than 1½ stories and must be in need of painting.
To apply or nominate a senior, go to the “Paint-A-Thon Central” page of the Brothers Redevelopment Web site: www.brothersredevelopment.org and click on the PAT logo. An application also can be re-quested by calling or emailing Volunteer Manager Chad Nibbelink at 720-339-5864 or [email protected]. Senior applica-tions are due by May 31.

Roundabout
The
Neighborhood
You have all probably driven the new roundabout on
14th and Lamar. This is a work in progress. New
planting and lighting will be added this spring. The
artist is Christopher Weed. The title of the puzzle
pieces is "Connected". It is a representation of the
neighborhoods coming together to support the revi-
talization of the West Colfax corridor. The next step
is for stop lights to be placed at Lamar and Colfax
and the removed from Kendall and Colfax.
Located at 1400 Pierce Street for 28 years and op-
erated by owner-managers Paula Christensen and Sta-
cey Shirley, Hang Ten & Tan is the ultimate resource
for nail services and tanning. They are planning to
extend their service to also provide hairstyling. A
customer can receive nail power polishing, a pedi-
cure, airbrushing and tanning, and soon a haircut all
from one resource. Hang Ten & Tan also has a multi-
tude of nail shellac colors for purchase in addition to
very beautiful jewelry. Call 303-237-6744 for an ap-

Restaurants
IN & AROUND
Two Creeks
Nestled in the little shopping center at 2049 N. Wadsworth, Los 3 Garcias Mexican Restaurant is an almost hidden gem. Not easily visible from the street, the interior is pleasant with a southwestern feel and it is well worth seeking out. The food is great and very reasonably priced. After searching a good portion of the Lakewood area for good Mexican food, I believe I have found my new favorite local restaurant.
One of the big tests for me in determining the quality of Mexican cuisine is the sauces. More than one should be used for different dishes. Enchilada sauce should be red, while burritos and rellenos should be smothered in green chile. I was happy to find that not only is that the case, but that they taste much like ones I experienced in Santa Fe. None of the sauces from the salsa to the chiles are so hot that you can’t enjoy the flavors of each, but have just enough kick to make them interesting. The beans have a homemade flavor instead of the fresh-out-of-the-can quality of those in many restaurants, and the rice is done nicely as well.
When my family visited, we tried the enchiladas (the chicken were okay but the cheese were deli-cious), chile rellenos (your choice of soft or crispy), and the huevos con chorizo. All very good! My son, who isn’t a big fan of Mexican food was even able to find something he was happy with. He enjoyed a sandwich very akin to a Cuban with a wonderful fla-vor.
Next time you’re in the mood for great Mexican food at a good price without having to travel very far, try Los 3 Garcias. You won’t be sorry.
WEST COLFAX MURALFEST The West Colfax MuralFest will be held August
8th on West 16th Avenue and Teller. This will be an
experience in the 40 West Arts District designed to
celebrate creativity and the character of historic West
Colfax. The free arts festival will feature juried art-
ists from across the country creating an outdoor art
gallery of seven (7) murals - all painted during one
week - culminating in a one-day celebration of art,
music, food/drink vendors, exhibitions and demon-
strations and creative activities for the whole family.
Put this on your calendar for a fun Saturday in Au-
gust. For more information visit westcolfaxmural-
