This majestic castle is standing proudly somewhere at the Ella.

Can you spot it?

On St Patrick’s day, green can be seen all around...even at the museum!

See if you can find the green object pictured here.

Switchel, also called haymakers punch, was a popular beverage on 19th century farms. Made with water, apple cider vinegar, sweeteners and spices, it provided extra hydration, vitamins, and sugar, making it the perfect energy drink for farmers performing strenuous chores.

There are many variations of switchel. Want to sample a taste? try it at our Sugaring & Shearing festival! The ingredients we use are listed in the glass to the right.

From noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, Farm Lane will be bustling with Puddingstone Farm’s petting zoo, sheep shearing, and sap-to-syrup demonstrations at the sugar bush. Inside the galleries, the Jackson Handweavers Guild will demonstrate spinning and weaving.

All historical buildings will be open to visitors, as will the galleries, with free make-and-take art projects. The Community Room will host Family Engineering Day, sponsored by the Jackson County Math and Science Center, part of the Jackson Intermediate School District.

Want to be a part of our fleecy and fabulous countdown to the festival? Submit your sheep doodles, haiku, or other creations, and you’ll be featured along with the rest of the flock at the festival on our Wall of Sheep!

Use the form below as your canvas and mail it in, bring it to the museum, or snap a picture of your sheep creation and send it to [email protected] to have your artwork included.

If you’re on social media, feel free to share your sheep with us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with the hashtag #WoolWednesday. Each Wednesday in March we’ll post inspiration for your sheep, so check our website and social media pages regularly and send in as many sheep as you like!

Turkeys have Thanksgiving. Chicks and bunnies share Easter. Groundhogs have a whole day named after them in February.

At the Ella Sharp Museum, there’s a day that’s devoted to sheep: the Sugaring & Shearing festival.
