A NEW NU!
In the late 1930’s the 13th Chapter of Phi Delta Chi was faced with unfortunate economic and global hardships. Membership was scarce and dwindling to the point that Nu Chapter lost sustainability. In 1938, the Chapter went inactive and has remained dormant ever since. This year, nearly 75 years later, I hope to announce a Nu awakening.
Brother Ben Urick (Psi) is currently working towards his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa. His love for the Brotherhood quickly prompted him to ask the Executive Council for our support in activating Nu Chapter. Happily granted, Ben has been instrumental in rebuilding one of Phi Delta Chi’s oldest entities.
There is a fantastic team of Psi Alumni Brothers working with Ben and the Nu Colony. Brothers Jill Fowler and Dena
Dillon, serving as the Colony Co-Advisors, have been extremely involved in helping to mentor this fine group of students.
The Colonist were officially pinned and pledges in January. Since then, they have established Government and are actively operating in their officer elect positions. Nu Colony has also appointed committee chairs and have held several successful professional and service events. Their philanthropic partners include Kids Agaist Hunger, Ronal McDonald House, and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. In the professional realm, they are working with area Alumni Brother Anthony Pudlo (Psi), Vice President for Professional Affairs of the Iowa Pharmacy Association to host a health screening event at a local mall.
I am so happy to report that being a “Brothers for Life” is not just a quote from the Pledge Manual, but a way of
life for Phi Delta Chi Brothers. Thank you to all of the Brothers who are fulfilling their Alumni Obligation in helping to reactivate Nu Chapter. I look forward to presenting their Petition for Reactivation to my fellow Executive Council Brothers.
AAAE,
Lexie

ASSESSING OUR WEBSITE NEEDS
Creating a state-of-the-art website to serve as the hub for all Phi Delta Chi information was the top goal resulting from the 2011 strategic planning retreat. I am pleased to report this initiative is on track for the planned August 2012 launch date (time line below).
A Website Working Group was recently formed from those of you who volunteered to serve. If you have interest in being part of the working group, then please contact me.
The working group has held two conference call meetings to date. The two main goals of the working group’s first two meetings was to analyze our
initial survey results and use them in a broad-based conversation about our main website needs. This work resulted in the determination that website functionality and ease of use need to be the main focus. Our new site will certainly look more up to date, but the focus of our efforts will be to design a website in which all pertinent Phi Delta Chi information, forms, and tools may be quickly accessed via an intuitive design.
The result of our second goal was the creation of a “needs assessment” survey designed with questions targeted to specific populations (e.g., questions specific for collegiate Brothers versus alumni Brothers). The hope is for this survey to be a main source of direction
as we proceed with designing and building our new website.
Please take a few minutes and complete this survey (link below). When you are finished, please consider sending the link to a few more people. This survey is not limited to Brothers, as a number of our website stakeholders are actually non-Brothers (especially those interested in pledging Phi Delta Chi).
Thank you for your support for improving our online presence!
Fraternally,
Michael Nelson

GAMMA ETA TO HOST CRAWFISH BOIL
The Gamma Eta Chapter of Phi Delta Chi will be having its 4th annual Crawfish Boil on Friday, April 27th from 6-10pm. It will be held at the Festival Gardens at Nelson Park across from the Zoo in Abilene, TX. Come and join us for a good time and some great food. To purchase tickets, simply email me ([email protected]), or Matt Pennington(WVC) ([email protected]). Our caterer is coming from Dayton, TX and is planning on cooking around 500 pounds for us so if you’d like to come, let us know if we need to reserve a ticket for you in advance. I know a lot of you were very interested in this event from Grand Council in NY, so here’s your chance to come to Texas and learn what a crawfish, crayfish, or mud bug looks and TASTES like! I understand that the event will be held on a Friday night, but if you’re close please stop on by! We’d love to have other Brothers from across the nation if possible.
Prices are $20 per person and includes crawfish, potatoes, corn-on-the-cob, drinks and other goodies.
• ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT crawfish, potatoes, and corn until it runs out. (Last batch will be cooked at 9pm)
• Plates and napkins will be provided
• Children eat FREE
• There is a volleyball court and horseshoe fields
• We are working on t-shirts to be included in the price as well!
If you would simply like to make a donation to help out our growing Chapter, please contact myself or send a check made out to “Phi Delta Chi” and send to:
