• Juniors and seniors are allowed 2 college visit days each year that will not count against exam exemptions. These visits do not roll over.

• Students must pick up a form from our attendance office (or print off our website) before the visit, have the form validated at the college, and return it to our attendance office on return.

• 1st semester visits must be completed by December 1, 2016; 2nd semester visits must be completed by May 5, 2017

• Many colleges offer special weekends for prospective students.

• Check your college websites for specific dates and registration deadlines.

The junior class is ranked at the beginning of their junior year then again at the beginning

of their senior year.

Colleges base much of their admission decision on the GPA and class ranked

earned

through the junior year.

• Students may take a maximum of 1.0 credits P/F in junior year (2.0 credits max. in high school)

• Course must be beyond the requirement for graduation (in addition to 26 credits for FHSP+E or 22 credits for FHSP)

• Course must be the 3rd or 4th credit in a sequence of courses. Only certain courses are allowed.

• Benefits students taking mostly advanced courses and earning A’s (GPA of 6.0 or higher)

• Grade in course is used to determine UIL eligibility and National Honor Society admission but not used in GPA or class rank computation

• K/H Level Courses: All K and Horizons classes are clustered

in the 11th and 12th grade years.

• Dual Credit (DC) – Students earn high school credit and

college (Lone Star College) credit concurrently. Students must meet K-level entry requirements and be admitted to Lone Star College.

• Advanced Placement (AP) – AP courses are college

curriculum and rigor. Students must meet K-level entry requirements. Students take AP exams in the spring (exam fee required). Score on exam and college standards determine if college credit is awarded. At Texas state universities, a 3+ will earn college credit.

• Students must earn a grade of “A”, “B”, or “C” in the previous K-level, L-level, or AP class in the same subject area

• Dual credit students must be admissible to Lone Star College through their SAT, ACT, or TSI scores

• Students must have parent permission to enroll in advanced level courses

Note: Please make your course selections carefully. All students in 11th grade must take seven (7) credits. Levels are determined by performance in current 10th grade courses. Students select courses for the next school year during the current spring semester. A decision of this nature should be given thorough consideration with parental aid. All requests for changes must be submitted in writing by June 1, 2016. Staffing decisions are made for the 2016-2017 school year based upon the number of students registered for each course; therefore, elective changes will not be made at

the beginning of the school year.

Full year courses end in a 3; semester courses end in a 0

ELECTIVES: Write course name and number for remaining credits for JUNIOR year. CHOOSE CAREFULLY.

ALTERNATE ELECTIVES : Please choose wisely-These will be used by you counselors if above electives are not available.

Choose alternate electives carefully. June 1, 2016 is the last day to make elective changes.
