How cool is that? Also, their
creed tells about God the Father
protecting Jesus while He was in
the grave, “the hyenas did not
touch him.”
“We believe in the one
High God, who out of
love created the beautiful
world and everything
good in it. He created
Man and wanted Man to
be happy in the world.
God loves the world and
every nation and tribe on
the Earth. We have
known this High God in
darkness, and now we
know Him in the light.
God promised in the
book of His word, the
Bible, that He would save
the world and all the
nations and tribes.
who, some joyfully say, “Are
only on the other side!”
These words are not
empty air, neither are they mere
tradition. But rather, through
tradition they are preserved
because they cannot be changed.
Through time, there are a
lot of creeds that Christians have
drafted to explain the faith to
their time and culture. The late
Jaroslav Pelikan, a modern
scholar of Christian history and
development of doctrine
(teaching), considers the Maasai
Creed to be an example of the
bringing together of universal
faith and local culture.
As Wikipedia says, “The
Maasai Creed is a creed
composed in 1960 by the Maasai
people of East Africa in
collaboration with missionaries
from the Congregation of the
Holy Ghost. The creed attempts
to express the essentials of the
Christian faith within the Maasai
culture.” Two of the most
interesting things about this
Maasai Creed (stated below) is
that, while our three ancient
creeds never speak to the actual
life of Christ, (they jump from
his birth to His death) this creed
explains that Jesus “was always

wonderful creeds, that is,
statements of faith. These
creeds connect Christendom
through both time and space.
All who have known Christ, do
know Him, or shall know Christ
as the Savior of the world, did,
would have, do now or shall in
the future, confess these creeds.
Creeds, like the Lord’s Prayer
or the Scriptures themselves, are
timeless anchors for the faithful.
Creeds connect us, now,
with those 2000 years ago who
gathered in the Roman
catacombs for worship. They
connect us with those who
battled in the Crusades of the
Dark Ages. They connect us

Reformation. By the confession
of the creeds, we are one with
those who, in the foxholes of
war, prayed before climbing
over the top into harm’s way.
The creeds connect us with the
Mayflower Pilgrims, with so
many of our Founding Fathers.
We are welded in one voice
with our grandparents, our
parents, and even the unborn
faithful of the future. Through
the creeds we are also of one
voice with the faithful departed

The need for creeds

“We believe that God
made good His promise
by sending His Son, Jesus
Christ, a man in the flesh,
a Jew by tribe, born poor
in a little village, who left
His home and was always
on safari doing good,
curing people by the
power of God, teaching
about God and man,
showing the meaning of
religion is love. He was
rejected by his people,
tortured and nailed hands
and feet to a cross, and
died. He lay buried in the
grave, but the hyenas did
not touch him, and on the
third day, He rose from
the grave. He ascended to
the skies. He is the Lord.
“We believe that all our
sins are forgiven through
Him. All who have faith
in Him must be sorry for
their sins, be baptized in
the Holy Spirit of God,
live the rules of love and
share the bread together in
love, to announce the
Good News to others
until Jesus comes again.
We are waiting for Him.
He is alive. He lives. This
we believe. Amen.”
Should your interest be
sparked you and you wish to
deepen your appreciation of this
h ea r t w a r m i n g an d s o u l -
illuminating topic, there is a
National Public Radio interview
with the aforementioned, Jaroslav
Pelikan (pictured right).
You will hear a man of
deep scholarship and heart speak
of the need for creeds. At the
same time, you will have a
window into his now-sainted
soul. The late Jaroslav Pelikan,
formally a Missouri Synod
pastor and professor, spent most
of his life inside books as well as
writing them.

When we confess the
creeds in worship, there is
something a whole lot larger
going on, we are communing
with the saints in one common
faith! Should you be interested
in hearing and seeing an
absolutely soul stirring recording
of the Nicene Creed being sung,

Help for the Homeless
works directly with the homeless
coalitions in Brown County, the
Fox Valley, Oshkosh, Fond du

the shelves of area homeless and
crisis programs with personal
hygiene and cleaning items so that
they can dedicate their limited
financial resources to providing
qualified personnel, safe housing,
nutritious food, education and
counseling to those they serve.
The goal of Help for the Homeless
is to supply a year’s worth of these

What is the altar guild? What do they do? These are great questions.
We need new members now more than ever with the recent decision to
serve communion at every service. This would be a great opportunity to
see what is involved in preparing the Lord’s altar for Holy Communion.

Many thanks to every
one of you that volunteered
to work at the Kenny
Chesney concert in June
and the Packer preseason,
regular season and post
season games (it would
have been great to have just
one more post season game
though!). I hope the
friendships you formed
made the experience more
enjoyable.
The Packers didn't
win the Super Bowl but we
at Our Saviour are winners.
Through your efforts and the
generosity of the Levy
organization at Lambeau
Field, we were able to raise
$33,194.81. The volunteers
from Green Bay Trinity
Lutheran School (up to five
per game) received
approximately $6,900
toward tuition costs.
L a s t y e a r w e
received $11,500 from our
efforts at Lambeau Field.
What a blessing the new
pay schedule was for us. I
am extremely grateful to all
of you that volunteered. It
was (and will be again next
year) rewarding to be part
of this ministry. See you
next year.
Thanks for another great football season

We urge the Obama
administration to repeal these
proposed regulations; we urge
Congress to enact legislation
requiring the repeal of these
proposed regulations; and we
will join with religious
organizations who refuse to
follow these regulations if they
become law. Like the Hebrew
midwives of Exodus 1 who
refused to obey the Pharaoh’s
command to slay Hebrew babies,
as stated in Acts 5:29 and the
Augsburg Confession, “We must
obey God rather than men.”
many Lutherans oppose on

an abortifacient in nature and
could destroy a developing
human being. These religious

at all and is totally unacceptable.
This is a matter of religious
conviction, and that which we
must not pay for directly, we
must not subsidize indirectly.
The Administration’s
offer of additional time for
compliance reflects a gross
misunderstanding of our
objection. This is not a matter of
time; it is a matter of conscience
