God loves the world and

These words are not

empty air, neither are they mere

tradition. But rather, through

tradition they are preserved

because they cannot be changed.

Through time, there are a

lot of creeds that Christians have

drafted to explain the faith to

their time and culture. The late

Jaroslav Pelikan, a modern

scholar of Christian history and

development of doctrine

(teaching), considers the Maasai

Creed to be an example of the

bringing together of universal

faith and local culture.

As Wikipedia says, “The

Maasai Creed is a creed

composed in 1960 by the Maasai

people of East Africa in

collaboration with missionaries

from the Congregation of the

Holy Ghost. The creed attempts

to express the essentials of the

Christian faith within the Maasai

interesting things about this

Maasai Creed (stated below) is

“We believe that God

made good His promise

by sending His Son, Jesus

Christ, a man in the flesh,

a Jew by tribe, born poor

in a little village, who left

His home and was always

on safari doing good,

curing people by the

power of God, teaching

about God and man,

showing the meaning of

religion is love. He was

rejected by his people,

tortured and nailed hands

and feet to a cross, and

died. He lay buried in the

grave, but the hyenas did

not touch him, and on the

third day, He rose from

the grave. He ascended to

the skies. He is the Lord.

“We believe that all our

sins are forgiven through

Him. All who have faith

in Him must be sorry for

their sins, be baptized in

the Holy Spirit of God,

live the rules of love and

share the bread together in

love, to announce the

Good News to others

until Jesus comes again.

We are waiting for Him.

He is alive. He lives. This

we believe. Amen.”

Should your interest be

sparked you and you wish to

deepen your appreciation of this

h ea r t w a r m i n g an d s o u l -

illuminating topic, there is a

National Public Radio interview

with the aforementioned, Jaroslav

Pelikan (pictured right).

You will hear a man of

deep scholarship and heart speak

of the need for creeds. At the

same time, you will have a

window into his now-sainted

soul. The late Jaroslav Pelikan,

formally a Missouri Synod

pastor and professor, spent most

of his life inside books as well as

writing them.

When we confess the

creeds in worship, there is

something a whole lot larger

going on, we are communing

with the saints in one common

faith! Should you be interested

What is the altar guild? What do they do? These are great questions.

We need new members now more than ever with the recent decision to

see what is involved in preparing the Lord’s altar for Holy Communion.

Many thanks to every

one of you that volunteered

to work at the Kenny

Chesney concert in June

and the Packer preseason,

regular season and post

season games (it would

have been great to have just

one more post season game

though!). I hope the

friendships you formed

made the experience more

enjoyable.

The Packers didn't

win the Super Bowl but we

at Our Saviour are winners.

Through your efforts and the

generosity of the Levy

organization at Lambeau

Field, we were able to raise

$33,194.81. The volunteers

from Green Bay Trinity

Lutheran School (up to five

per game) received

approximately $6,900

toward tuition costs.

efforts at Lambeau Field.

What a blessing the new

pay schedule was for us. I

am extremely grateful to all

of you that volunteered. It

was (and will be again next

year) rewarding to be part

of this ministry. See you

next year.

Thanks for another great football season

We urge the Obama

Congress to enact legislation

requiring the repeal of these

will join with religious

organizations who refuse to

follow these regulations if they

become law. Like the Hebrew

midwives of Exodus 1 who

refused to obey the Pharaoh’s

command to slay Hebrew babies,

as stated in Acts 5:29 and the

Augsburg Confession, “We must

obey God rather than men.”

an abortifacient in nature and

could destroy a developing

at all and is totally unacceptable.

This is a matter of religious

conviction, and that which we

must not pay for directly, we

must not subsidize indirectly.

The Administration’s

offer of additional time for

compliance reflects a gross

misunderstanding of our

objection. This is not a matter of

time; it is a matter of conscience
