Early Dismissal June 29th, 2017
All schools in the York Region District School Board
are committed to improving student achievement and
well-being. On Thursday, June 29th, 2017 an early
release day will take place to allow elementary
teachers and support staff to take part in meetings
during the afternoon of that day. These meetings
will allow for school staff to engage in culminating

transition activities that support student success.
As has been our practice in the past, students will
attend school during the morning of Thursday, June

that day at 11:20 a.m. Arrangements will be made
to ensure that students who are normally bused to
and from school will receive transportation at this
time. Parents/guardians whose children attend after
school child care should make appropriate
arrangements to address this change in schedule.

Message from our Trustee
As we near the end of the school year, I want to thank you for all that you do to strengthen our schools and communities. This
is a good time to celebrate your child’s achievements over the past year.
One of our goals in the Trustees’ Multi-Year Plan is to “continuously increase student achievement and well-being through a
culture and caring and learning.” That includes a culture that emphasizes engagement and positive relationships among all the
members of the school community – students, staff members, families and community members.
You, as parents/guardians, are our most important partners when it comes to education. The support you have provided to
your child throughout this past school year will help to strengthen our schools and make a difference to your child’s learning.
I encourage you to continue engaging your child in learning throughout the summer, and to help them to see the connections
between what they are learning in school and the world around them. There are so many opportunities to do this over the
summer, whether that’s planning a budget with your child, enjoying the natural beauty in York Region, reading a book or
visiting local sites. Whatever your plans are this summer, I wish you all a successful end to the school year, and a safe and
enjoyable summer.
TRACK & FIELD
On Friday, May 19th, 2017, all grade 4 - 8 students at Maple Creek Public School competed in their annual track and field events. It was a chilly day, but the students showcased both their athletic ability and school spirit.
Field events included ball throw, shot put, running long jump, standing long jump, and triple jump. Track events are running various distances from 100 m to 1500 m. Each student was to select two track and two field events to compete in. Students were awarded ribbons if they placed 1st to 6th place, and the top two in each category for boys and girls are eligible to move on to the area track and field finals on June 13 (junior) and June 14 (intermediate) where they will represent Maple Creek as they compete against the best from other schools in our area.
Special thanks to all teachers and volunteers, in
particular Mr. Chai and Ms. Vujinovic for their lead role
organizing a special day that students look forward to each
year.

“Doubting yourself is a bigger monster than failure will ever be”
-Hannah J.
Our 2017 5k Run was an inspirational experience for us all. Not only did we learn how to push ourselves to our full potential, but we learned not to let our fears come between our goals that we’ve set as a school and family. We’ve challenged ourselves, and each of us finally passed the finish line, with a mindset that we can accomplish our goals. Special “shout out” to Aarin Jasikumar for finishing first with a time of 18 minutes and 22 seconds!
A huge “Thank You” goes to the following amazing people:
Ms. DiNardo, Mrs. Pink, and Ms. Cerullo for providing us with the beautiful medals
our wonderful Maple Creek parents, Mrs. Buckley for organizing the Police, and our parents from School Council: including, Mrs. M. Liacos, Mr. T. Wood, and Ms. Gangapersaud for handing out water and oranges.
Officer Gary Vosburg for ordering and picking up the medals.
The York Regional Police and The Vaughan Fire Department.
Ms. Jovic and Mrs. Papakyriakou, for organizing this great event.
Ms. Taylor for contacting the Vaughan Fire Department.
