Using this Manual
Introduction
This manual has been prepared to instruct you in the safe and efficient operation of your Seed Box Agitator. Read and follow all instructions and safety precautions carefully. The parts on your Seed Box Agitator have been special-ly designed and should only be replaced with genuine Great Plains parts. Therefore, should you require re-placement parts go to your Great Plains Dealer.
The right hand and left hand as used throughout this manual is determined by facing in the direction the ma-chine will travel when in use unless otherwise stated.
Serial Number The serial number plate is located on the end box frame. It is suggested that the serial number and purchase date also be recorded for your convenience in the space pro-vided at the beginning of this manual.
The serial number provides important information about your attachment and may be required to obtain the cor-rect replacement part. Always use the serial number and model number when sending correspondence or when ordering parts from your Great Plains Dealer.
The SAFETY ALERT SYMBOL indicates that there is a potential hazard to personal safety involved and extra safety precautions must be taken. When you see this symbol, be alert and carefully read the message that fol-lows it. In addition to design and configuration of equipment; hazard control and accident prevention are dependent upon the awareness, concern, prudence and proper training of personnel involved in the operation, transport, maintenance and storage of equipment.
Watch for the following safety notations through-out your Operators Manual:
! DANGER!Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. This signal word is limited to the most extreme situations.
!

The Seed Box Agitator is designed to stir the seed di-rectly above the metering cups. It is intended to cut down on the "bridging" of light fluffy seeds, and help to sepa-rate individual soybeans that become sticky from inoculant. The Seed Box Agitator will not guarantee consistent seeding of hard to meter seeds such as Brome Grass or "bin run" seed that contains crop residue.
The Agitator is an option that may be ordered with your drill, or ordered and installed at a later time by you or your dealer.
NOTE: Indicates a special point of information which requires your attention.
For your safety and to help in developing a better under-standing of your equipment we highly recommend that you read the operator sections of this manual. Reading these sections not only provides valuable training but also familiarizes you with helpful information and its lo-
cation. The parts sections are for reference only and don’t require cover to cover reading. After reviewing your manual store it in a dry, easily accessible location for fu-ture reference.

Section 2 Assembly Instructions & Set-Up
S
NOTE: While using the following text to install your Agitator, you may need to refer back to the parts sec-tion of this manual for more details and for positive identification of related items not mentioned in these instructions.
Refer to Figure 2-1:If your drill is equipped with a Small Grass Seeder at-tachment, a majority of the drive system is already in place. If your drill is not equipped with a Small Grass Seeder one of the following drive bundles must be or-dered with any agitator assembly:
197-115A 30’ Small Grass Seeds & Agitator Drive Assembly
197-116A 24’ Small Grass Seeds & Agitator Drive Assembly
Drive InstallationIf your drill does not have 197-115A or 197-116A re-fer to the following:Install the two 1" bore bearings (#1) on the end of the box frame and frame drive plate using the flangettes (#2) and 5/16"-18 x 1" round head square neck bolts (#3) and

hardware as shown.
Slide the 1" jackshaft (#4) thru the bearing mounted on the end of the box frame. Slip the shaft through the 19 tooth sprocket (#5) and the 22 tooth sprocket (#6). Then slip it through the bearing attached to the frame drive plate.
Attach the drive chain (#7) from the gearbox to the 1" jackshaft around the 22 tooth sprocket (#6). Align and tighten the chain and idler sprockets.
If your drill is assembled with 197-115A or 197-116A Small Grass Seeders and Agitator Drive assembly refer to the following:Remove the 1" jackshaft thru the box frame end panel. Attach the 19 tooth sprocket (#5) to the jackshaft and slide the jack shaft back thru the box frame end panel.
Final Drive ConnectionRoute the drive chain (#9) back through the cutout in the box, around the agitator sprocket (#8) and back to the 19 tooth sprocket (#5) as shown. After connecting the chain, check alignment of the sprockets. Move the agita-tor sprocket (#8) if needed and tighten the two set screws on the sprocket. Position and adjust the idler sprockets as shown.
Once all chains are aligned, tighten all the hardware.

Agitator Paddle InstallationRefer to Figure 2-4: Slip one paddle (#1) over the hex shaft directly above a feeder cup. Slip a 1/4"-20 x 2"long hex flange bolt (#2) through the paddle and secure with a 1/4" hex flange lock nut (#3). Before tightening a pad-dle or group of paddles, carefully rotate the drive system to make sure paddles do not hit the tray dividers.
After checking for interference, torque the paddle bolts to 9 ft. lbs. (108 in lbs.)
Install the next paddle over the next feeder cup. Index this paddle 1/6th of a turn by sliding it onto the next set of flats. Continue the installation, using the next set of flats for each paddle. The fully assembled shaft will have a built in spiral when finished.

MaintenanceProper servicing and adjustment is the key to the long life of any farm implement. With careful and systematic inspection, you can avoid costly maintenance, time and repair.1. After using your attachment for several hours, check
all bolts to be sure they are tight.
2. Adjust idlers to remove excess slack from chains. Clean and use chain lube on all roller chains as needed.
Storage1. Lubricate and adjust all roller chains.
2. Store the drill inside if possible for longer life.

Problem Solution
Uneven metering Check for plugging in metering cup.
Check to see if seed tubes are plugged.
Reduce ground speed.
Check for lumps or trash in the material. Screen these out if needed.
Check all drive chains, sprockets, keys and pins.
The agitator will not guarantee perfect seeding of trashy, wet or sticky material.
Actual metering rate is different than desired
Check tire pressure. Proper inflation is listed in the “Tire Inflation Chart", Section 2, page 4.
Check gauge wheel size. Proper size is 11L x 15".
Seed box not emptying evenly Some sections of the box have more metering cups causing that section to run out first.
