FOREWORD

As a lift truck operator, you are responsi-ble for a machine that is useful, powerful, and can be hazardous if not operated asdescribed. Your Big Joe truck may weighmore than some cars, depending on themodel. Observing and practicing thesafety warnings in this manual cannot beoveremphasized. Just knowing the warn-ings, however, is no substitute for commonsense. Using your common sense will, inalmost all cases, prevent accidents. Thinkof the truck as your own. In this way youwill learn its capabilities and limitations. This manual is intended to remain with the

truck at all times as a handy referenceguide to operation. Detailed maintenanceprocedures are found in the parts and ser-vice manual for the specific truck model, and are to be performed only by a quali-fied technician. For further information onobtaining a complete parts and servicemanual, see page 21 of this manual. Theoperator who knows his truck will learn tospot problems as they develop. This isaccomplished by performing the DailyChecks and reporting any problems to thedesignated authority.

SAFETY SYMBOLS

WARNING and CAUTION are both signal words intended to alert the viewer to the exis-tence and relative degree of a hazard. They are both preceded by a safety alert symbolconsisting of an exclamation mark enclosed by a triangle.

A Warning indicates a hazard which could result in injury or death if proper precautions arenot taken.

A Caution indicates a reminder of routine safety practices.

A prohibition slash (circle with diagonal slash through it) indicates a procedure or actionthat should not be performed under any circumstances, as both personal injury and/or dam-age to equipment will result.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Big Joe LLC M22 utilize the straddle legconfiguration, which normally straddlesthe load.

The mast handles are used to help controlthe lift truck. The control handle is used topropel and steer the lift truck. Lift andLower are controlled by a lever locatednear the operator.

The model number will be found on thename plate along with the serial number, lifting capacity and load center.

If the name plate or warning decal are lostor damaged they should be replacedimmediately. Have your supervisor or thedesignated authority contact Big JoeAuthorized Dealer for replacement

This truck is equipped with a battery. Read and heed the following warning plus any otherwarnings located near or on the battery. An example is shown here:

LOAD CAPACITY

The further the load center is from thebackrest, the lower the load capacity. Theload center must also be no higher thanthat specified above the lifting surface(Top side of forks). For example, a loadcapacity of 2200 pounds with a load cen-ter of 24 inches means that the truck canbe used to lift 2200 pounds only when theload’s center of gravity is no morethan 24 inches from the face of the forks

or 24 inches above the top side of theforks. Note that a truck under-going speedchanges is less stable than a standingtruck. If you are not sure that the truck canlift a certain load, consult your supervisoror the designated authority.

An overload can cause machine damageand stability loss or tipping of the lift truck.

BEFORE OPERATION

The table on page 6 covers importantinspection points on the truck whichshould be checked prior to operation.Depending on use, some trucks mayrequire additional checks.

The illustration below shows a sample for-mat for an Operator Checklist, which canbe modified as necessary to fit your opera-tion.

Periodic maintenance of this truck bya QUALIFIED SERVICE TECHNI-CIAN is required.

A QUALIFIED SERVICE TECHNI-CIAN should check the truck monthly

for proper lubrication, proper fluidlevels, brake maintenance, motormaintenance and other areas spec-ified in the parts and service manualmaintenance section.

If the truck is found to be unsafe andin need of repair, or contributes to anunsafe condi-tion, report it immedi-ately to the designated authority. Donot operate it until it has beenrestored to a safe operating condi-tion. Do not make any unauthorizedrepairs or adjust-ments. All servicemust be performed by a qualifiedmaintenance technician.

If the truck has not been used for a longtime (more than a month), regular batterymaintenance should be performed.

12. Slowly move the lift truck back-ward,checking that the forks do not catch onthe pallet or rack.

13. Lower the forks when they are clear.
