DirectoryPress Setup Guide

This documentation has been developed to provide a step by step guide on how to setup DirectoryPress

for the first time.

Follow each step one by one to avoid problems. Please make sure you complete each step before

moving on to the next.

Make sure you have the following options available to you before beginning.

1. Wordpress 2.8+ Installed (Wordpress 3.x Recommended)

2. DirectoryPress 5.x + installed.

3. Access to your hosting server via FTP or a FTP manager of some sort.

Don’t have Wordpress?

Wordpress is a free open source CMS (content management system) that is commonly used for running

online blogs.

You can download your free copy of Wordpress online from now using the link below;

Installation

DirectoryPress is a Wordpress theme and therefore must be installed in the Wordpress theme folder.

The best method of doing this is to FTP the DirectoryPress theme to your installed Wordpress themes

folder;

wp-content/themes/

(Check our website for more help on FTP’ing files to your website.)

Once you have uploaded the theme folder to your website it should have this file structure (case

sensitive)

wp-content/themes/directorypress/

Activating the Theme

Once you have successfully uploaded the theme to your Wordpress theme folder, login to your

Wordpress admin and it should now be visible in the Wordpress Appearance -> Themes directory for

activation;

Setup Guide Introduction

Here I will quickly show you the basic steps to setting up DirectoryPress, use this as a reference if you

have already setup your website and are having problems and/or want to skip to the more detailed

guides below.

1. General navigation

2. Image setup

3. Setup submit page, contact page etc

4. Setup your payment gateways

5. Adding directory

6. Managing orders

Step by Step Setup Guide

Setting up your DirectoryPress website for the first time is very easy, and takes less than 5 minutes.

Follow the steps below one by one only moving onto the next step after completing the first.

Recommendation (RESET BUTTON)

If you have just installed Wordpress or are installing the DirectoryPress theme on an old website which

you no longer use it is recommended to use the RESET button, this will install and try to auto configure

your website making it a lot faster for you to get setup.

The reset button can be found under the 1.General Setup tab and looks like this;

Step 1 – General Navigation

DirectoryPress has its own navigation bar on the left side of your Wordpress

admin area which contains all of the navigation links you’ll need to setup and

configure your directory website.

To view the navigation bar login to your admin and you should see the

DirectoryPress admin options visible on the left menu bar of Wordpress as

seen in the picture to your left.

General Setup Options

The majority of global/general website options can be found under the

1. General Setup tab selectable from the navigation bar.

Adding Websites to your Directory

DirectoryPress uses the normal Wordpress “add post” tools to create

new directory listings on your website, this tool can be found as

normal in the Wordpress admin under posts -> add posts..

Step 2. – Image Setup

Adding directory listing images will be a common task when running your directory website therefore

you must setup the folders where all your images will be stored.

DirectoryPress allows for two types of image access;

1. Self hosted images

2. External Images

Self hosted images basically mean images that are stored on your own hosting account where as

external images are those images hosted elsewhere and you simply link to them.

The only difference when specifying images in your products is the presence of ‘http://’ in the image

name, if you link externally to an image you must use the full image link including the http://...

Otherwise the system will try and locate the image from your image folder.

What you must do now is enter the paths to your image folder, this folder will be used by the system

when displaying self hosted images so you must make sure its setup correctly otherwise your images will

not show up!

To do this, navigate yourself to your Wordpress admin area;

DirectoryPress Admin Options -> 1. General Setup -> Image Setup

It’s important you check and double check that the file paths and links work correctly since this is where

the system will try and grab the files to give to your customers.

Image Storage Folder (link)

Page 8: manual

Premium Wordpress Themes Page 8

This is the http://.. Address of the folder where your product images are stored. The system will

automatically try and generate the correct path for you so its mostly a case of copying the path under

the box.

Image Storage Folder (path)

This is the server path to the same folder as above, once again the system will try and generate the

correct storage path and display it for you to copy under the input box.

CHMOD 777 folders;

/wp-content/themes/directorypress/thumbs/

Step 3 – Setup Submit, Callback and Contact Pages

DirectoryPress has a number of built in page templates that will be

used for the submit page, callback, contact etc pages.

These are custom built templates for DirectoryPress and start with

the filename “tpl-“.

To setup these pages you need to login to your Wordpress admin

area and click on Add New page.

Page Title, Content and Attributes

You can enter any Title for the page you like

HOWEVER its strongly recommended you keep it

short, one word if possible, and easy to remember

such as;

Submit

Account

Callback

Contact

Articles

The page Content area can be ignored since it

will not be displayed.

If you look closely, the right side of the page, there are some extra options called Attributes.

These attributes are used to select which template to use for this page. The idea here is that you setup a

new page for each of the templates, so 1 contact page, 1 checkout page etc.

Step 4 – Setup your payment gateways

Now you have setup your pages, you may want to setup your payment gateways to accept payments on

your website. For this example we will be using PayPal.

Login to your admin, click

DirectoryPress Admin -> 4. Payment Setup

You should now see a list of payment gateways available with DirectoryPress, for this example we will

setup PayPal so select PayPal gateway.

Where it says, return URL, Cancel URL and Notify URL You should enter the link to the callback page you

created above.

The PayPal email is the one you have already assigned to your PayPal account and the currency code

should be USD or any of the correct currency codes set by PayPal. ( GBP,YEN )

Step 5. – Adding Directory Listings

Now that you have the system setup correctly we can start adding directory

to the website.

Adding directory is very easy and simply a case of creating a normal post

and attaching custom field attributes as described below;

The system has a number of predefined name and values which you should stick to when add product

attributes, all field names are lowercase (case sensitive) these are;

Name Example Value Example Display

SKU ABC123 Unique ID used to update the product via CSV files.

url www.google.com Displays the website thumbnail and link button text

Page 12: manual

Premium Wordpress Themes Page 12

image http://www.website.com/image.jpg Displays as a small image on the home and search pages.

images image.jpg, image.jpg, image.jpg

Will create a product image selection field under the product main page. Separate each image with a comma.

featured_image http://www.website.com/image.jpg Displays a featured image if selected for the home page featured box.

type article This is only used if you want to display an article page and not a product page. Refer to the articles section for more information.

Expires 10 Number of days until the package expires.

hits 0 Hit counter

map_location New York Address for the Google map location

packageID 1 (1 to 4) Package ID for the listing

Step 6 – Managing Orders

DirectoryPress has a built in order management tool, this is very basic however gives you an overview of

orders that are pending and complete.

Whenever a custom goes to checkout, their order is saved in the admin area

for you to view and set to ‘Awaiting Payment’.

If you have setup your callback pages correctly, once payment has been

received and the user is redirected back to your website the payment status

will be updated to ‘Paid and Completed’ and you will then be expected to

send out the ordered products.

IF you wish to manually update the status or change/view the delivery address simply click on the

view order button and more information about the order can be seen.
