Welcome all three staff on Buller.
I’ll also be taking some leave as of July 27th
and an Acting Principal is currently being
advertised through North East Victoria
Region (NEVR). Ms Bell is on leave and had
indicated that she does not want to be Acting
Principal in my absence, so as soon as the
Regional office has made the Acting
appointment, I’ll advise the school community.
As many of you will know, Judd and Nicole
Horneman lost their house in a fire over the
holiday period and many parents have come
forward asking what they could do to support
Nicole, Judd and the children.
We have opened a collection for the family and donations can be made through the school office. Offers of other goods and services can also be made through the school office. Both the collection and goods and services offers will run until end of August. Our P&F are coordinating the response, but all offers can be done at the school office. School Skiing Program
Parents are reminded that all school fees and
accounts must be settled fully before your
child can participate in our Ski program and
that payment for skiing must be made on the
Monday prior to the actual day. Last year
School Council made a decision that all
accounts need to be paid in full prior to skiing.
Thank you in anticipation of this request and
advice. Eligible families should have already
applied for the CSEF (Camps, Sports and
Excursion Fund) program.

Do you hold a heavy bus / heavy truck
license and can satisfy the conditions for
driving a 22 seater bus? If so and you can
PRINCIPALS REPORT
Welcome back
This term has commenced with several new
families arriving in Mansfield and new
students enrolling to our school. A warm
welcome is extended to those new families.
We’ve had a somewhat unprecedented
number of new enrolments since the start
of the school year which has resulted in
some classes being quite full.
Unfortunately, we have no control over
those extra enrolments, which is great on
one hand, but does mean that some classes
and more full than we would ideally like. I
thank parents for their patience and
understanding.
This term sees several staff changes as
well. Nicole Comerford and Robyn Robinson
are welcomed back sharing a Year 1/2 class
and Ms Carolyn Munday is taking Year 5,
replacing Ms Dunlop who has gone to Mt
Buller. Three staff are also on Mt Buller
including Ms Dunlop, Sue Steel
(Coordinator) and Mr Mike Croucher.
Working Bee
Sunday 26th
July 2pm
help us out on Friday’s for the Prep swimming program, we
would love to hear from you. If you have a Working with
Children Check, bonus!
PARENT OPINION SURVEY
A random selection of parents will be selected to participate
on our annual Parent Opinion survey. Parents are selected
randomly from our data base. It may mean that you’ve been
sampled before or possibly never before. Regardless, we ask
that if you receive a survey, please complete it and return to
the school as quickly as possible. The survey helps us identify
improvement areas as well as understanding what we are doing
well, or areas where we need to get better. The survey will
arrive in homes in the coming week. Please return them on time if you get one.
STUDENT ACHEIVEMENT
With mid-year reports and parent/teacher interviews behind
us, we move into the second semester with a clear focus on
teaching and learning. Each child’s report has work that
parents can do with their child at home and teachers have a
clear learning focus and goals for the students at school
within the curriculum that is being completed this semester.
From my experience where parents, the school and teachers
work in a close supportive framework, then the outcomes for
all students are ultimately enhanced.
IMPORTANT: If you have on-going concerns about your child’s
progress, even after your PT Interview, arrange a meeting
with the team leaders. (Team Leaders: Prep-Yr 2 Mrs Morgan,
Yr 3 – 4 Mrs McInnes, Yr. 5- 6 Mrs Johnstone.) Alternatively,
you can see either Ms Bell or Mr Volkering.
SPORTING SCHOOLS
Last term we trialled a new program called Sporting Schools.
Sport plays an important role in everyone’s life and regular
exercise is extremely important for a balanced lifestyle. We
provide rich opportunities in not only sport, but also the
creative arts, for all students here at MPS.
Sporting Schools is similar to the Active After School
Communities program but enables schools a bit more variety in
terms of access to different sports and accredited coaches.
Last term, Year 5 and 6 students were able to try Lawn Bowls,
Ten Pin Bowling, Golf and Badminton and according to the
coaches of the various sports, we have some budding
champions in our student group. The focus is on recreative
pursuits that children can learn and then take with them
throughout their lives.
This term we are planning for more activities, but aimed at our
Year 3 and Year 4 students. In term 4, providing the program
continues, we will be aiming toward a program for our Prep,
Year 1 and Year 2 students.
TERM 2 FUNDRAISER
At the end of last term the children organised a casual dress
day in return for a gold coin donation. Proceeds from the
fundraiser were to go to Kids Hope. I’m pleased to advise the
school community that the students raised $257.00. An
outstanding effort!
UNIFORM
Throughout this year, as I’ve mentioned, I’ve been pleasantly
surprised by the wonderful response for greater pride and
responsibility around the wearing of school uniform. By and
large I feel our students and families have responded really
well, with the vast majority of students in correct school
uniform most days. We did have an unusually high number of
items in “lost property” late last term, but apart from that,
the wearing of school uniform has been excellent this year.
With winter well and truly here, we ask all families to ensure
that children continue to wear their uniform with pride. We do sell a really great fleecy lined jacket which at $35 represents outstanding value, is warm and looks great. Our
red and navy blue colours are really great and look fantastic on
the children. Keep up the great work. If you are struggling for
uniform, please see Lisa in the school office or contact
“Vinnies”, as they too stock some of our uniform.
Don’t forget you lose most of your body warmth through your
head, so a school beanie for your child might just be the
answer. I know how cold your head can get!!!!
Parents are urged to check lost property for missing uniform.
Education State Consultation
Following the election of the Andrew’s government here in
Victoria, one of their key priorities has been to re-establish
Education as a priority here in Victoria.
Aside from the rhetoric, we are seeing successive
governments under invest in public education across all
sectors, which will be evident to most people who take a keen
interest. However, the present state government in Victoria is
aware of this unfortunate situation and has commenced a
broad ranging discussion about ways we can improve the
provision of education across all sectors here in Victoria. I
know what you are about to say, not another discussion paper!!
However, this revue and discussion will help forge a clear
direction for schools in coming years and is important for
rural communities in particular, because rural education lags
behind that of other metropolitan communities. I encourage
you to have your say.
Parents are invited to participate in the discussion by
following the link.

CSEF Funding
Please note that if you have applied for the CSEF (Camps,
Sports & Excursions Fund) you can use this towards the school
skiing/snowboarding and the Year 4 Cross Country skiing
programs. Please advise the school office if you wish to do so.
MANSFIELD SHIRE REMINDER TO PARENTS AT DROP OFF/PICK UP
TIMES
As you may know all of the schools in Mansfield are randomly checked during drop-off and pick-up times by Council’s Ranger (often complaints by other drivers) to ensure drivers are parking in a safe manner and not putting children at risk. While the large majority of parents exercise the necessary care some drivers still appear to be unsure of a number of Road Safety Road Rules. One Road Rule which is regularly breached concerns the prohibition of parking within ten (10) metres of an intersection. The Rule is designed to maximise visibility for both drivers and pedestrians and is even more important in environments where a child’s road awareness skills aren’t yet fully developed.
