Mandolite 550 is a spray applied, single package factory controlled premix, based on vermiculite and Portland cement. Mandolite 550 produces a monolithic coating able to withstand the thermal shocks experienced in high intensity hydrocarbon fuelled fires, particularly jet fires. Mandolite 550 may be used anywhere above the splash zone on offshore installations, and even in the splash zone with suitable protection. It is easy to install and maintain in a wide range of climates. Although the added applied weight to a structure is low, Mandolite 550 will accommodate structural flexing and also has excellent resistance to explosions. Mandolite 550 is used for application on offshore steel or concrete structures, storage vessels and supports. It is also used on pre-assembled units prior to transportation to site as well as to structures fire proofed after site erection. The offshore oil and gas industries will benefit from the use of Mandolite 550. • Mandolite 550 is a spray applied, single package factorycontrolled premix, based on vermiculite and Portland cement.

Mandolite 550 produces a monolithic coating able to withstandthe thermal shocks experienced in high intensity hydrocarbonfuelled fires, particularly jet fires.

Mandolite 550 may be used anywhere above the splash zone onoffshore installations, and even in the splash zone with suitableprotection. It is easy to install and maintain in a wide range ofclimates.

Although the added applied weight to a structure is low,Mandolite 550 will accommodate structural flexing and also hasexcellent resistance to explosions.

Mandolite 550 is used for application on offshore steel orconcrete structures, storage vessels and supports. It is also usedon pre-assembled units prior to transportation to site as well asto structures fire proofed after site erection.

The offshore oil and gas industries will benefit from the use ofMandolite 550.

    Negligible.

Structures protected with Mandolite 550 have undergone fire resistancetests in approved independent laboratories.

The fire response of Passive Fire Protection materials (PFPs) is assessed in firetests that are intended to represent the effects of real fires, eitherhydrocarbon pool or jet.

In addition, PFP systems may be required to provide the followingrequirements:1. protection against high momentum jet fires2. resistance to blast/explosion over pressures.

The ratings for PFP systems are based on furnace tests carried out to therequirements of;BS 476: Part 20: 1987 (Appendix D Hydrocarbon Cure)ISO/DIS 834 ProprosalDEN/NPD Interim Standard

The Mandolite 550 Systems has been fully tested and has fire approvalcertification for structures and fire resisting divisions. Moreover, the systemhad demonstrated a favourable response to jet fires and resistance to blast.

General considerations The fire protection requirement is often detailed in the owner operatorsstandard and/or project specification.

Product thickness calculations can be provided by Cafco International.

    Preparation

    Typical substrates

    Substrate preparation

    Mesh retention

KC 110Mandolite 550 can be applied to primed steelwork. Prior to the applicationof Mandolite 550, steel should be prepared by the application of .

Primed steel, galvanised/metalised steel, concrete structures, divisions andvessels.

The substrate shall be clean, dry and free from dust, loose millscale, looserust, oil and any other condition preventing good adhesion.

Fire tests conducted have been carried out with mesh reinforcement, todemonstrate the abiity of Mandolite 550 to stay in place under the mostsevere fire conditions or in an explosion.

  • General considerations For external locations, Mandolite 550 shall always be topcoated. ConsultCafco International for recommendations.

    Application

    Methods

    Limitations

Application of Mandolite 550 must be carried out by an applicatorrecognised by Cafco International and applied in accordance with theApplication Manual available from Cafco International.

Apply Mandolite 550 by a spraying machine approved by CafcoInternational.

Mandolite 550 may be applied when the substrate and air temperatures areat least 2C and rising, but should not be applied if they are less than 4Cand falling. Maximum substrate and air temperature is 40C.

Substrate temperature should be at least 2C above dewpoint temperature.

Where substrate temperatures are likely to be above 40C, consult CafcoInternational.
