The Western Washtenaw RecyclingAuthority has officially opened its new singlestream processing facility on Werkner Road,after phasing in operations over the last two
months.At a ribbon-cutting ceremony Feb. 6, Frank
Hammer, president of the WWRA, thanked
residents for making the effort to sort recy-clables for the last 20 years, which is now notnecessary, and described the lengthy processof planning the new facility.
The project was financed with a $2.7-millionbond issue, which will be repaid with a taxassessment on residents of investing commu-
nities, which include Lyndon, Lima, Dexterand Manchester Townships, and the City ofChelsea.
Hammer said the assessment for townshiphouseholds is $50 per year, which includes $26in operating expenses. In Chelsea, where curb-side pickup is offered, the total is $100.

This year, McLennansMaple Syrup is adding a newtwist to its annual March isMaple Syrup Month events.
The Manchester business at10950 M-52 is teaming with TheBig 400, a group promotingbusinesses in rural areas. Aspart of their partnership, theyare offering a pancake break-fast on March 9 in addition to
tours and taste-testing.Its good, wholesome, fam-ily fun, said Steve Hahne,manager of McLennans.
Beginning at 9 a.m., attend-ees can eat a pancake breakfastfeaturing pancakes, homemademaple syrup and sausage.
