Physical-Several reflexes, hand eye-coordination, roll over, sit up, crawl, and stand

Intellectual- connecting sounds with moving objects, crying to express needs,

Emotional- Bonding with parentsSocial & Moral-Smiling, recognizing faces

and names, debate over development of knowing right from wrong

Emotional-Become a little independent, self esteem grows with encouragement, strong emotions, and mood swings.

Social-Parallel Play( Play near but not with each other) Toddlers want to do everything themselves, become easily frustrated and throw temper tantrums.

Moral-Toddlers develop a sense of right and wrong but test the limits of caregivers

Pre-School YearsAbout 3-5 years old

Physical-Run, hop, pedal tricycle, throw and catch a ball. Print their names and cut paper.

Intellectual- Count numbers, identify colors, recognize letters. Express more complex ideas through asking “how” and “why.” Like to play dress up and make believe.

Pre School YearsEmotional- More expressive and less frustrated. Less

self centered and more understanding of others. Range of emotions. May not be able to tell the difference between pretend and reality

Social-Cooperative play (Play and interact with each other). Take turns, share, solve problems together. Around the age of 4-5 kids may choose a best friend.

Moral- Strong sense of wrong and right. Get upset when someone doesn’t follow rules.

School-Age Years6- 12 years old. Spending a lot of time in

schoolPhysical-Permanent teeth replace baby teeth.

Intellectual-Acquire reasoning skills. Use symbols such as numbers and letters which leads to reading and simple math.

Emotional- More sensitive to stress from school and family. Those who have support are more likely to handle it better.

School Age YearsSocial-Form peer groups that help them

practice social skills. Also practice sharing and considering feelings of others.

Moral-Understand rules are flexible and change. Care about what other people think of them.

Social, Emotional, & Physical needs To satisfy a child’s social and emotional

needs, caregivers need to remind the child he or she is loved.

To satisfy a child’s physical needs, caregivers need to provide a warm and safe home, nutritious food, and appropriate clothing.
