Summary of interview:

The person I chose to interview was my mom, Linda Kane

Linda believes that managers are born leaders

The management style that Linda uses to manage her employees is motivational leadership

The importance in having a management job is to enjoy what you are doing and adapt to changes in healthcare

How Linda became a Manager:

Linda went to school in Colorado and finished her degree in New York and graduated with a B.S. in Medical Technology and then interned and received her National Certification in Medical Technology and a Specialist certification in Microbiology

Started out as a Medical Technologist Linda then worked her way up to become the

Supervisor of Medical Technology Because of her passion to make changes in her work

environment, she then became the Director of the laboratory

She currently has the title of Laboratory Administrative Director in St.Augustine Florida

Linda’s Viewpoint of being a Manager:

Some people are born leaders

Sometimes challenging when there is not enough staff available and also when Linda has to bring home work with her

Rewarding to be able to make healthy and constructive changes in work environment

Linda believes that using motivation to encourage staff, such as rewards and recognition helps staff to complete tasks on time and in the proper way

Key points of interview:

Positive managing skills helps staff accomplish tasks correctly and effectively

Linda uses graphs and charts to identify issues in the work environment

Work from the ground up when wanting to become a manager

Take home messages:

Linda advises new managers to continually keep up with law changes and changes in the hospital, for example Obama Care

Know how to divide tasks equally among staff when the number of people working are limited

Motivational leading is a better managing style than punishment in the work environment

Conclusion:

Good communication with staff and others is key to being a successful manager

Know all there is to know about the company you are working for

Keep yourself updated on new laws and changes occurring in the hospital

Even though being a manger has its rewards such as making positive changes, it can be stressful such as not having staff who follow through on tasks
