Summary of Significant Changes
Description of Clinimed Packaging system. Medicool pack details. Reference to DAT60. Place bags of dry
ice on top of product. Choose correct Clinimed box to avoid excessive use of Medicool packs.
Policy
The temperature of blood and blood components transported to customers and between centres must
be
maintained within the limits prescribed in the UK BTS guidelines.
Purpose
This document defines the maximum transportation times of blood and blood components packed in
Clinimed boxes with the appropriate configuration of thermal insulation packs.
Responsibilities
Issue Managers - Ensure that staff are
properly trained and are aware of the
requirements of this document.
Ensure that adequate packaging
equipment is available including
boxes, Medicool packs and dry ice.

Transport Staff – Ensure timely delivery of
packed material and obtain records of handover
times.
