The three R’s
Natural resources
Why do we need to conserve natural
resources ?
Awareness about the problems caused by
unthinkingly exploiting our resources has
been a fairly recent phenomenon. And once
this awareness rises, some action is usually
taken.
The ganga run its course of over 2500 km from gangotri in
Himalayas to Ganga Sagar in the Bay of Bengal.
It is being turned into a drain by more than a hundred towns and cities in Uttar
Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal that pour their garbage and excreta into it.
A number of initiatives have been
undertaken to clean the river but
failed to deliver desired results. After
getting elected, India's Prime
minister Narendra Modiaffirmed to
work for cleaning the river and
controlling
Pollution.Subsequently,Namami
Ganga project was announced by the
Government in July 2014 budget.
Recycle means to collect used things like plastic, paper, glass and
metal items and recycle these materials to make required things
instead of synthesizing fresh plastic, paper, glass or metal.
Segregation is needed to recycle
the wastes so that the material
that can be recycled is not
dumped along with other wastes.
Reusing is better
than recycling
because the process
of recycling requires
some energy. In the
reuse strategy, you
simply use things
again and again.
By sticking labels over the address you
can reuse envelopes . Alternatively, old
envelopes can be used as scrap paper to
make notes on.
Newspaper, cardboard
and bubble wrap -
Make useful packing
material when moving
house or to store
items.
Even while making everyday choices, we can make
environment friendly decisions. The effects of our choices
on the environment can be immediate or long term.
The concept of sustainable development
encourages forms of growth that meet current
basic human needs while preserving the
resources for the needs of future generations.
Sustainable development implies a change in
all aspects of life. It depends upon the
willingness of the people to change their
perceptions of the socio-economic and
environmental conditions around them, and
the readiness of each individual to alter their
present use of natural resources.
Materials or substances occurring in nature which can be
exploited for economic gain are known as natural resources.
Resources are not unlimited and with the human
population increasing at a tremendous rate due to
improvement in health-care, the demand for all
resources is increasing at an exponential rate.
Practice the three R’s.
Don't leave water running needlessly.
Ride your bike or walk instead of driving.
By creating awareness amongst the people.
Use the switch off.
