MAN Fleet ManagementDriving Tomorrow’s Solutions Today

2

The ideal online solution to all your vehicle performance, compliance and maintenance needs, MAN Fleet Management provides busy vehicle operators with a simple to use and easy to learn approach to ‘managing their fleet’ - efficiently and effectively 24/7.

Accessed via a single portal, using MAN’s Trucknology website and securely protected with your own organisation’s personal password, MAN Fleet Management represents a major breakthrough In day to day management and vehicle administration. Available with a range of modules to suit your individual needs, MAN Fleet Management consists of the following:

EcoStyle Performance ReportingGone are the days when trying to decipher fleet management performance data meant sifting through endless rows and columns of data…

Today, thanks to MAN’s unique EcoStyle Safe and Economic driver performance reports, clear, meaningful and graphical information is available at

an operator’s fingertips in an instant - around the clock.

EcoStyle Performance Reports offer a simple, yet unique ABC rating system, to help operators gain a clear assessment of each of their drivers’ driving performance - both individually and collectively.

MAN’s Safe and Economic driver reports cover each of the key parameters that are so vital in influencing a vehicle’s fuel economy. The information is automatically calculated and illustrated in an easy to read and meaningful manner to the operator.

When it comes to analysing the fuel economy of any vehicle, it’s a well known fact that the driver holds the key.

In the challenging times we live in, fuel consumption is very much a product of how a vehicle is driven, rather than simply being a measure in its own right. Ultimately, fuel consumption depends upon a specific driver’s style and behaviour behind the wheel, plus their appreciation of such things as:

Driver awareness and appreciation of the vehicle’s abilities are clearly paramount to improving fuel economy.

This is where MAN’s EcoStyle Performance Reporting, in conjunction with MAN’s ProfiDrive driver training programme, offers so much help and support to UK operators.

Harsh Accelerating

Use of Cruise Control

Harsh Breaking

Engine Idle Monitoring

Over-speeding

Correct Use of Gears

The ‘easy-to-use’ functionality of the EcoStyle reports enables an operator to firstly assess his overall fleet, and then to drill down to the individual driver level, to show exactly where fuel savings can be made.

Both projected and achieved savings are visible alongside a driver’s ABC rating, offering the potential to deliver your very own driver rewards scheme… a scheme based upon a true representation of your drivers’ abilities to run both economically and safely.

MAN’s programme enables every driver to have their own personal KPI report, complete with a performance improvement focus covering their weakest areas - designed to help improve both their own driving style and to help deliver future improvements in savings.

Of course, it is not only fuel savings we are considering here. Nurturing your drivers to employ a safe and economic driving style will also deliver huge savings in wear and tear items such as tyres, brakes and clutches, not to mention gains as a result of increased uptime and potential savings relating to accident and insurance costs.

Also, for those times, when you need to see the complete picture rather than a summary report, detailed performance reports are instantly available at the click of a button. These can be produced either at the vehicle level, or now also by driver via MAN’s revolutionary digital tacho interface, which enables driver identification automatically, from the details on their digital tacho card.

EcoStyle comes as standard on all MAN Trucks sold with an R&M package.

Quality Driver Training delivers so much moreWhilst MAN’s EcoStyle reporting will show the potential for fuel savings and will monitor any improvements made thereafter, it is driver training which will provide the impetus to enable those necessary improvements in driving style to occur amongst your staff.

MAN’s ProfiDrive* driver training programme is well proven in its ability to demonstrate fuel savings of well in excess of 10%, immediately following a driver’s attendance on the course. Remember also that in addition to these obvious savings, other benefits such as vehicle wear and tear and reduced driver fatigue will logically follow.

So by combining MAN ProfiDrive driver training and EcoStyle performance reporting, your business is well on its way to not only making significant savings in fuel consumption but, more importantly, maintaining those savings over the longer term.

Document Management DatabasePaperwork and filing burdens are now a thing of the past - thanks to the Document Management Database from MAN Fleet Management.

Quite simply, the system helps busy operators manage the storage of all necessary documents and certification relating to the maintenance and inspection histories of their individual vehicles in a clean, paperless manner.

This module comes as standard for all new vehicles purchased with an MAN R&M contract.

Here is just a sample of the multitude of documents that can be instantly stored online and accessed via MAN’s managed web service:

n Vehicle MOTs

n Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMIs)

n Plating certificates

n Tacho calibration documentation

n Driver defect reports

n Vehicle registration certificates

Once stored, all of your individual vehicle documents are secure and completely tamper-proof. The system provides complete flexibility for operators to add new document types - whenever required.

Another key benefit of the MAN Document Management Database is that it is fully compliant with the VOSA Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness - removing at a stroke one of the biggest headaches operators face today - providing secure, yet easily accessible, storage of vehicle documentation in order to help maintain their ‘O’ Licence.

*All MAN ProfiDrive driver training courses qualify towards a driver’s CPC requirements.

Accessing Your Fleet’s DocumentsOnce logged into your very own area of the MAN Trucknology portal, simply type in a vehicle’s registration number… and, in no time at all, information is available at your fingertips. This includes:

n The vehicle modeln The registration daten The vehicle operatorn The servicing dealer n Full details and scope of any warranty

or service contract provision

In addition, a complete list of all documents available for the individual vehicle in question is displayed on screen.

By simply clicking on the document link, the system instantly displays the requested document.

Automated Service & Inspection SchedulingThis MAN Fleet Management module provides your operation with a planned workshop schedule for your vehicle inspections and maintenance work.

Once the schedule has been set up, the system automatically notifies you - via e-mail - when a vehicle is due to go into a workshop for scheduled work; in addition, the system will automatically alert you of any missing, or expired, documents for the vehicle in question.

Once again, MAN Fleet Management’s automated Service & Inspection module meets the standards as set out in the VOSA Guide - providing busy operators with another valuable tool to help ensure their operation is working within the terms of their ‘O’ Licence at all times.

This automated Service & Inspection module, as with all MAN Fleet Management offerings, is accessed via a simple web browser and comes with full security built-in, with your own user and password generated protection.

Both MAN Fleet Management’s Document Management Database module and the automated Service & Inspection module are available as standard on all new MAN vehicles supplied with an MAN Repair and Maintenance contract, for the duration of the contract.

In addition to our core modules, MAN Fleet Management customers can access further services - via the same website - to assist their business in other areas. Such as:

Forward Facing CamerasGone are the days when forward-facing cameras were used merely as evidence in accident situations. The latest solution from MAN Fleet Management integrates seamlessly (with the truck’s telemetry) allowing management attention to be focused solely on those vehicles that have generated ‘alert triggers’ during their driving schedules.

The accelerometer within the camera detects the likes of:n Harsh brakingn Accelerationn Harsh steering

Whenever such instances occur, the camera saves a 30 second snippet of video footage onto its own memory card; these snippets can then be easily retrieved and viewed as and when the trucks returns to the depot.

In this way, the camera footage can be used not only as evidence for road traffic accidents, but can also prove to be an invaluable aid helping to educate and improve driver behaviour amongst all your drivers.

Vehicle Tracking & MappingAdditional features can be added to an operator’s MAN EcoStyle reporting suite; for example MAN Vehicle Tracking, which provides an up to the minute ‘track and trace’ facility back at your transport office for your entire fleet.

At a glance you will be able to see the speed and direction of travel of any of your vehicles and be able to pinpoint them accurately on a map.

Geofences can be maintained enabling you to clearly identify whenever any of your vehicles enter particular sites, which could be your own premises or alternatively those of significant customers or suppliers.

Additional Options with Fleet Management

Covering all areas of Europe and beyond, MAN’s Tracking option also offers a comprehensive playback facility on any journey your vehicles undertake, allowing you to replay a particular vehicle’s route between any two points in time.

Now you have the knowledge and control of all your vehicle movements – remotely, enabling you to manage your operation more effectively and identify problems before they occur.

Driver Communications ModuleAnother MAN Fleet Management option is the Driver Communications Module…

With this option you gain a dedicated, ‘hands free’, in-cab offering which can dramatically reduce the costs of 2-way voice and text communications with your drivers.

Bundled call packages ensure huge savings can be made, with all your communications being routed through the same SIM card that handles the truck’s individual fleet management reporting.

In other words you simply ‘piggy back’ on the truck’s SIM card and reduce your call and text communications to a fraction of the normal price.

Journey Management (Route & Schedule Adherence)Monitoring fuel performance and driver behaviour is one thing, but to truly claim to run an efficient transport operation today’s modern operator must ensure his planned routes are adhered to; that all planned consignments are delivered in a safe and timely manner; and, that all planned mileages are correct and never exceeded.

With MAN Fleet Management’s new Journey Management application, these types of headaches are now a thing of the past for Transport Planners!

The dashboard touch screen welcomes the driver by name when he inserts his driver card into the tachograph. Configurable task management then ensures that the driver completes his daily ‘walk round checks’, before allowing him to report any defects in real time.

Once all checks are completed, the driver is presented with his first trip as interfaced from the operator’s planning system; the driver is also given the option to be guided automatically by satellite navigation, based on the geofences existing for every depot and

customer site known to the operator and his operation. ‘Truck routes’ ensure no narrow lanes or low bridges are encountered by the truck during its journey.

Back in the Planning Office, the interactive Schedule Execution Board provides an instantaneous view as to the status of each truck against its planned routes. Colour coding highlights vehicles that are late and those that are on time; completed drops can be identified immediately alongside those yet to complete their journeys.

Drill-down capabilities enable quick access to maps - outlining each leg of a journey, whilst statistics and variances against the journey plan are automatically compiled along the way. Such data enables impressive reporting capabilities, which can provide important customer service and driver debrief reports.

Airport-style Arrivals and Departure Boards can provide a more simplified view of the fleet’s status against the plan on large plasma screens. Filtered views of this information can then be made available directly to customers, showing only that particular customer’s legs of the truck’s overall journey.

Temperature Tracking ModuleThe temperature tracking module provides a graphical view of the temperature readings over time, for vehicles that have refrigerated trailers using a Transcan device.

The report provides a one-page-per-vehicle view of the temperature readings along with the total number of temperature alerts.

Trailer Tracking ModuleLost and stolen trailers are a thing of the past now thanks to the new trailer tracking module from MAN Fleet Management...

The solution incorporates a tracking unit complete with battery back-up, securely mounted to the trailer in a tamper and weatherproof housing.

Powered through the suzi connector when connected to a tractor unit, it reports real-time positional data back to the host system over GPRS.

When disconnected from the tractor, the unit reverts to a hibernating state using battery power for approximately 2 years, waking only at predetermined intervals to confirm its position. If disturbed, a vibration/motion sensor automatically wakes the unit, causing it to immediately transmit an alert and to start reporting its position at regular intervals.

11

Incident Data Recorder (‘Black Box’)Confusion over the cause of road traffic incidents is a thing of the past thanks to the new Incident Data Recorder from MAN Fleet Management. Subscribers to this service have their telemetry data sampled 4 times per second; and can see, in a graphically animated representation, exactly what their vehicle was doing immediately prior an the incident.

Vehicle speed, engine speed plus a special focus on ‘what the pedals were doing’ can be viewed every quarter second; providing a much clearer indication as to the cause of any traffic incident encountered by the driver.

Data is captured every ¼ of a second and includes: n Vehicle location, speed and directionn Accelerator positionn Braking (Engine & Service)n ABS statusn Clutch activation and gear selectedn Cruise control staten Engine Torque and PTO State

Vehicle Activity & Utilisation ReportsHighly graphical reports which allow users to quickly understand how much vehicles have been used, when & where the vehicle has been used; as well as, what specific trips the vehicle and drivers have been on.

Driver ID Understanding who is driving a vehicle at any given time is often crucial. This can be done by either a standard connection to the digital tachograph or via a dallas key in van based operations (which can also be used to differentiate between business and private mileage in operations where the van is held by the driver).

Driver Feedback Module (DFM)A simple traffic light module with voice prompts which provides real-time feedback to drivers as infringements occur e.g. speeding, engine idling or harsh braking. Warnings are issued firstly and then reported as alerts once thresholds are exceeded.
