ACADEMIC SUCCESS
HEALTHY LIFESTYLES
To inspire all young people,
especially those who need us
most, to reach their full potential
as productive, caring,
responsible citizens.
Youth of the Year Youth of the Year is the Club’s premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club teens. Club members who earn the youth of the Year title embody the values of leadership, service, academic excellence and healthy lifestyles and exemplify the critical impact that the Club has had on their life. Giselle Baca was selected Youth of the Year because she lives these values every day and has demonstrated her commitment to being a leader, making a difference in the world and always staying positive. Giselle will be attending college in the fall with a full ride to the school of her choice.

All Club programs are geared toward academic success. Through programs such as PowerHour, Project Learn and My.Future, the Club helps members improve their grades
and helps facilitate on-time grade progression. In 2015, Club youth spent more than 45,000 hours of their after school Club time focusing on homework, reading and
studying. This helps put members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for their future.
The Club helps members make responsible life choices, not only about food and exercise, but
avoiding drugs, alcohol and premature sexual activity. Through programs such as Passport to Manhood,
SMART Girls, and Triple Play, our Club members are taught that being healthy is much more than what’s
on their plate. The Club teaches healthy decision making, promotes positive relationships, and
encourages self-confidence through group discussion, games and teamwork exercises.
The Club is a safe place for youth after school and in the summer, helping them learn responsibility, respect, accountability and listening skills. There
are over 1,000 documented gang members in Lake County and 8 active gangs. By directing
children to constructive activities, opportunities, decision-making and conflict resolution, we can
help protect them and their communities. The Club provides role models and mentors that help
youth find a dream and create a better future.
In 2015, the Boys & Girls Club of Lake County celebrated fifteen years of service to youth. In that time, the Club has empowered hundreds of children and teens to achieve great futures as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Our goal continues to be to empower youth and change lives. We will achieve this goal by providing a premier Club experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who walks through our doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and living a healthy lifestyle. As we look to the future, we are focused on serving youth more often with greater impact. We thank all of our loyal supporters, past, present and future, for helping us make a difference. Great futures start here.
