The services (figures for January 2013)
• 229 Web Map Services (WMS) and 23 Web Feature Services (WFS – full interoperable datasets available over the web) data layers being served
• from 57 data providers• is being served by 46 service providers i.e. 15+
‘buddies’• one or more layers for 51 nations, 20 continental
or other large world regions and 8 smaller sub-national regions

Making Geological Map Data for the Earth Accessible
Also NEW in 2013!In 2013 we will ‘be on the cusp of a discontinuity’ with major steps forward in being able to support and promote standards based Geoscience data web services within OneGeology:
1). Geoserver 2.3 open source software (www.geoserver.org)will be out in production and capable of supporting the new GeoSciML v3.1 standard(launched at GIRAF11) and WFS 2.0 and ESRI OneGeology grant software ArcGIS 10 Server modules that explicitly support GeoSciML v3.1 WFS 2.0 are being developed.
2). New OneGeology portal - with the addition of user client Tools which will support age and lithology querying of OneGeology 5 star GeoSciML v3.1 based WFS services and portrayal and SLD querying of GeoSciMl Portrayal 2.0 based OneGeology 3 star WMS’
3). Web services that will allow you to check your proposed webService before submitting it for accreditation checks – including WMS and WFS Structure and content (‘schematron’) checks,
![Page 17: Making Geological Map Data for the Earth Accessible OneGeology WebServices as an example of worldwide and world open SDI – history, current state and technology](https://reader036.vdocuments.site/reader036/viewer/2022062321/56649dc75503460f94abca3b/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Making Geological Map Data for the Earth Accessible
4). With continuous associated cookbook updates including a GeoSciML_Portrayal Annex to the WMS cookbook for a 3 star WMS that can be queried/SLD portrayed ina client and cookbooks to support GeoSciML 3.1 WFS using open source and freeGeoserver 2.3 software.
5). Also new for 2013 and just as important – the funding of OneGeology service support, portal provision and secretariat support will move from voluntary funding by BGS and BRGM, as currently, to voluntary (small) consortium agreement and incorporation style contributions from individual geological surveys and institutions and commercial organisations.

Main developments of the new portal
• New portal (V3 – August 2012), main features – To improve user experience– Automatic display of maps according to scale– New print function– Integration of the most advanced GEOSS search tool (EuroGEOSS
broker) to search and access to all GEOSS datasets– Testing of WFS2.0 with GeoSciML 3.1 into the portal
• Test the new ESRI WFS 2.0 OneG compliant (on UK and Tasmania)
• Test implementation of a proxy for OneGeology-Europe maps, – objective : improve the performance for mapping a large number of
countries/regions
