Question: Would a teacher whispering to a student privately and then giving the student time to think about his/her choice (action) be a punishment or consequence?

We use the Make Your Day Citizenship Program.
With Make Your Day when a student interferes with the learning, safety or well-being of another student he/she is allowed to think about their choice. This is called going to Step.

Make Your Day
PointsNow let’s talk about an important part of Make Your Day
which is how do you make your day.
![Page 23: Make Your Day. 1.Do we need rules in our classroom? 2.What would our school or community be like without rules? 3. How do “rules” help? Objective: We](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070415/56649e905503460f94b944c4/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
PointsEach student has the ability to make their day.
In order to make your day you need to earn points.
Earning Points
1. You begin earning points the moment you leave the house in the morning.2. You earn points every time you do what is expected.3. You earn points every time you try your best.
I’m Making My Day!
![Page 24: Make Your Day. 1.Do we need rules in our classroom? 2.What would our school or community be like without rules? 3. How do “rules” help? Objective: We](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070415/56649e905503460f94b944c4/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
During Points you will decide if you are tattling or if you have a concern
Tattling-Tale vs Concern
Tattling Tattling: telling a parent, teacher, etc., about something bad or wrong that another child has done so that the child gets punished
Many times a student tattles because he/she wants to hurt the other student.
Tattling is a threat to a person’s well-being.
ConcernConcern: when a person is genuinely worried about a friend’s learning, safety or well-being.
When you are concerned about a friend or student you talk to that person in a kind way in order to find a way to help.
![Page 25: Make Your Day. 1.Do we need rules in our classroom? 2.What would our school or community be like without rules? 3. How do “rules” help? Objective: We](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070415/56649e905503460f94b944c4/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
PointsPractice Voicing Concerns
It is important to practice voicing concerns. Here is an example of how to state a concern.
“It interfered with my (learning/safety/well-being)when you ______________and I asked you to stop.
Response: “Accept” or “Don’t Accept”.
If the student does not accept then we “split the difference” in points
