FIBRILITE is a thermoplastic composite with reinforced threads designed for use in car interior trimmings. Lighter than traditional felt it provides a 30% reduction in weight for dashboards, wheel wells and headlinings with the same mechanical performance.

Eco-Technilin has been the French leader of non-woven natural fibre products for the automotive industry since 1998. They are now involved in producing numerous interior car parts: rear shelves, door panels, headlinings, dashboards, wheel wells and car boot floors.

Generally the products used for car interiors are made of glass/polypropylene felt and are 50% heavier, this increases the engine cycle and restricts the amount of vehicle lightening possibilities.

The innovation of Fibrilite is in the use of glass threads to reinforce the thermoplastics providing the same resistance as traditional car felt but with a 30% reduction in weight. Fibrilite can be used in the same way as all thermoformed felt using the same tools but with the advantage of a reduced engine cycle.

the advantages of Fibrilite:• The finished parts are 30% lighter in weight than those made with tra-

ditional felt

• Cheaper transport with a 30% reduction in volume

• Increased resistance and rigidity: the deviation of a 3.4kg weight is only 16mm compared to 23mm with a traditional car felt

• Reduced manufacturing costs

• Lighter parts provide a reduction of carbon gas.

Fibrilite is of interest to car parts manufacturers specialised in thermo-compression car part trims.

MAZZIOTTA MOTORS SAS high energy recovery braking system for scootersMazziotta motors SAS manufacture energy recovery mechanisms for Motorbikes, Scooters and Quads. Following several years of research and several international patents, Mazziotta Motors have developed the simplest, most economical high performance regenerative braking system for light vehicles.

Moving at speed the driver needs a source of energy to brake the vehicle. The high amount of energy produced by disc brakes is converted into heat by friction and is wasted. Regenerative braking consists of recovering this kinetic energy and storing it to be used when required to power acceleration.

There are several existing forms of regenerative braking systems which are more or less efficient: electric engine braking in which the electric motor generates electricity to brake the vehicle and a hybrid hydraulic braking system which combines friction brakes and dynamic braking by means of a pressure sensor contained in the hydraulic circuit providing the engine with braking power: neither of these systems produce a great amount of energy.

The «True» regenerative braking system replaces friction braking by engine braking functioning as a generator of electricity. The energy recuperated in this case is ideal: an economy of 20% up to 40%.

how it works? When braking the brake fluid leaving the master cylinder in the hydraulic control unit is held back at the oil reservoir without reaching the brake caliper, therefore there is no mechanical braking.

In the oil reservoir the oil pressure increases and is felt when applying pressure to the brake. A pressure sensor detects the applied pressure on the brake lever and instructs the on board computer which controls the electric engine to generate power in order to brake the vehicle, replacing the friction brakes. Braking is gradual and progressive.

During the first part of braking the regenerative system is programmed on a maximum setting, which means that in 90% of cases the driver will never use his friction brakes. A large amount of energy is recuperated! In order to comply with security and safety regulations and also eventual power supply problems the system has been designed to release brake fluid to the friction brakes to ensure mechanical braking. The system is therefore extremely safe.

Mazziota Motors SAS can make regenerative braking systems for electric or hybrid vehicles; Maxi scooter series, Motorbikes or Quads; 125 cc series; 50cc series.

ESCOFIER Gear rolling of pinions and worm gears: gear teeth finishing by cold forming deformationThe gear rolling process of pinions is a finishing process for gear teeth, providing a quality comparable to that obtained by conventional machining before thermal treatment, reducing the tool part cost and making it the most economical process on the market, far cheaper than machining or precision grinding. Today, Ford is the first car manufacturer to use this process created by Escofier, pioneers in the sector and the only company in France offering this technology.

There are already several existing processes that can be used such as shaving, honing or precision grinding. They all work by the removal of material with various different tools resulting in varying finished qualities and with increased costs of 4 up to 70 times.

The pinion gear rolling process works by cold hardening the burnished surfaces rather than by removal of material. It provides an excellent finished surface improving the mechanical and geometric properties of the parts, resulting in greater resistance to wear and pitting and a significant reduction in gear train noise.

There are multiple advantages: a very short cycle time which reduces the initial investment for large series production. The longevity of these tools confirms the economical benefits making this the cheapest process per tooled part.

Gear rolling comes into its own with sintered materials. Not only does it provide a high precision final tooth profile but it also improves the densification of the gear teeth flanks. This process provides the same properties and performance as that of standard steel pinions whilst using the advantages of powdered metal enabling the production of complex geometric parts.

the advantages of gear rolling pinions and worm gears:• It can be applied to all gears: machined, cast and sintered pinions

(high or low density).

• the uniform displacement of the material provides a uniform spreading of the stress, limiting and stabilising distortional effects during thermal processing.

• An excellent surface obtained (up to Ra 0.02) thus reducing movement.

• The extremely short cycle time (around 10 secs.) reduces the initial investment by reducing the quantity of machines required.

• The longevity of the tools which can produce up to 1 million pieces make the parts produced by this technique the cheapest on the market.

There are numerous applications for this process, particularly in the automotive sector for all gear systems in gear boxes and also for worm gear systems present in many types of machinery.

Trends - ComutoCarpooling serving traffic information!

With support from

The economic benefits of carpooling are manifold: reduced travelling costs, reduced pollution, fewer parking places needed, less stress etc. But its usage to predict road traffic is only at its very early stages. Nevertheless carpooling contains all the potential necessary ingredients to provide traffic forecasting and for the first time to give actual information rather than suppositions based on past statistics. In the future combining carpooling with travel aids and devices could revolutionise real time traffic information. At the start of every weekend or school holidays we normally consult the traffic forecast in preparation for our trip. These forecasts are usually based on statistics for the same period based on statistics taken in the past. Now with the advent of communicative vehicles, road users are getting used to and developing new habits. The summit of this communal age has been the springboard for the creation of new motoring information systems in order to optimise our trips by the use of warning devices related to driving speed and dangerous zones. In the same ways in which these warning devices anticipate use and regulation of driving speed it is also possible to think of an application provided by carpooling using user details to anticipate future traffic flow. The viability of this relies very much on a representative number of users being involved.

For the first time ever, a video provides the possibility to see future traffic situations ahead based on the actual user’s details. Covoiturage.fr is the leading carpooling site in France with 1,500,000 French members covering 90% of carpooling offers on line. This is ever increasing and now represents between 2% to 4% of all trips undertaken. Covoiturage.fr has created a video which allows for the visualisation of traffic flow on the route ahead by using user information. Differing from standard traffic information (Bison Futé in France) this video is based on information directly on the route members are using and not on past traffic statistics. It’s not a supposition; it’s a vision of the future! The information regarding future trips is taken anonymously from the data base of the details given by the driver (time, starting place and point of arrival). Covoiturage.fr calculates the most probable route for each vehicle marking these on a map of France to represent road traffic. On the video, 1second is equivalent to 1hour of traffic. The coloured indicator gives the traffic percentage relative to the time shown on the video. A video of traffic anticipation was made for the weekend of November 11th 2011 - a notoriously busy holiday weekend in France. Symbolising cooperative consumerism, Covoiturage.fr provides the way to travel all over France and Europe by sharing transport costs. By announcing their trips in advance, motorists who share their vehicles reduce road traffic and now help to anticipate future traffic flow.Comuto are thinking of other possible uses for this unique data. As Frédéric Mazzella, Covoiturage.fr founder, said at the National Innovation for Services Conference «The data we have found is like finding a hidden treasure at the bottom of the garden and were not quite sure what we’re going to do with it, yet!».
