MAKE IN INDIA MITTELSTAND!

Make In India Business Support Programme for German Mittelstand and Family Owned Enterprises

I SEEK GERMAN PARTNERSHIP in my own mission to open up India‘s seamless economic potential. You will find environment that is not only open, but also welcoming. We will make it easy to do business in India. We want a future in which excellence defines every sector and every industry in our country.

This is a historic opportunity for the German companies. You would already know the direction of my Government and the steps we are taking. I can assure you that once you decide to be in India, we are confident to make you comfortable.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

AMBASSADOR‘S MESSAGE

India has emerged as one of the leading economies in the world

and the positive trend is expected to continue. Our partnership

with Germany is also becoming more positive. With our emphasis

on manufacturing through the Make in India campaign, the Micro,

Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) segment is expected to play

a significant role. The German Mittlestand has proved to be an

exceeding example of this in Germany. Hence the Make in India

Mittlestand (MIIM) programme was conceived after Hon’ble PM

Modi’s visit to the Hannover Messe in 2015.

Following the resounding success of the MIIM initiative in its first

year, we now go into MIIM 2.0, to continue enabling and facilitating

German Mittlestand’s entry into India. The programme is being

continued due to the overwhelming and unequivocal positive re-

sponse and request of the German Mittlestand and Family owned

enterprises, where they have been supported on queries, issues

and challenges alike by a dedicated MIIM team which consists of

not only government officials but also private experts across a

variety of sectors and services.

4

This is the first time that the Government of India has started

such an initiative anywhere in the world. The German Mittlestand

is in a position of privilege to benefit from this facilitation pro-

gramme led by the Embassy of India in Germany and run under

the aegis of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion

and the Ministry of External Affairs. It is this mutually beneficial

nature of the Indo-German business cooperation which is helping

the two countries come closer and grow together.

I have seen positive signs from the German Mittlestand, as they

joined this initiative which is crafted to assist in helping them make

business plans for a successful investment into India. Through the

MIIM, we emphasise the growing opportunities that India offers and

support a variety of business models. It is well known that it is the

fastest growing economy in the world. In addition, the Government

of India, under the Make in India programme is constantly and with

an unprecedented speed moving towards being pro-industry and pro-

entrepreneurship. The government has initiated several fundamental

measures including relaxation of FDI norms and the Good and Ser-

vices Tax which are helping it move up the scale of Ease of Doing Bu-

siness. The time is ripe and the MIIM provides the right opportunity.

Under the MIIM 2.0 new partners will add to an already existing

top of the class partner network to bring additional services and

significant support to the MIIM Companies. The MIIM team is cons-

tantly trying to upgrade the support through a variety of activi-

ties including Workshops and Webinars to ensure that MIIM com-

panies achieve an early success in India.

My MIIM project team, the Embassy of India in Berlin, the Consula-

tes in Frankfurt, Munich and Hamburg and I will always be ready to

help you at every step on the way in your entry into India.

I wish you a successful and rewarding association with MIIM in its

second year.
