Supplies Needed For Each Board

• 2 equal sized pieces of cardboard

• Spray starch• Scissors• Giant needle (the eye of

needle should be large enough to accommodate the cord)

• ~ 4 feet of duct tape• ~ 10 feet of super sticky

Page 3: Make a Suture Board Cheap!
Page 4: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Draw 3 lines lengthwise that divide the towel into 4 equal sections.

Page 5: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Fold the towel so that the line to one side is aligned with the line down the middle of the towel.

Page 6: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Repeat with the other side. Iron and spray starch your towel.

Page 7: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Tape the ends and the center of the towel with wide extra sticky masking tape (tape both front and back).

Page 8: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Cut the towel in half down the middle of the masking tape.

Page 9: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

You now have two phantom board towels .

Page 10: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Lie the towel face down on your workspace.

The creases that meet on midline will not be visible.

Page 11: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Place one piece of cardboard in the center of your towel.Place a strip of masking tape STICKY SIDE UP under the end of the towel.Press firmly to secure the masking tape in place.

Page 12: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Fold the towel over the edge of the cardboard.

Page 13: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Press the tape FIRMLY to the cardboard (make sure you are working on a flat surface).

Page 14: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Repeat the

process on the

other end of the

towel.

Page 15: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Pull the towel as snug as possible on this end. The snugger the towel, the better your board!

Page 16: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Turn your board over.Cut a piece of tubing about 1 ½ inches narrower than your suture board.Pass the cord through the tubing.

Page 17: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Thread the cord through the eye of the needle.

Page 18: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Pass the needle through all layers of the suture board, towel, and masking tape about 1 ¼ inch from the top and side edge of the board. Repeat at the other end of the tube.

Page 19: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Repeat on the other side of the tubing.

Page 20: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

The tubing should stand up off the suture board slightly. This will make practicing your ligatures much easier!

Page 21: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Carefully pull the cord snug without damaging the cardboard.

Page 22: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

.

Tie a secure knot in the cord.Tape the ends.

Page 23: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Place the second piece of

cardboard over the

back of the suture board.

Page 24: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Align the cardboard.

Page 25: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Turn the board over

carefully maintaining

the alignment.

Page 26: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Place masking

tape along the edges

of the suture

board so that ½ the tape is on the board and ½ the tape is left

hanging over the

edge.

Page 27: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Carefully flip the board

over maintaining alignment of the two

layers.

Page 28: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Fold the tape over the edge of the board

and press firmly to the cardboard.

Take care not to pull the

towel out of position as this will affect the

midline creases and

make practice difficult.

Page 29: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Repeat with the other side. Again take care not to

pull the towel out of position.

Page 30: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Turn your suture board over.

Page 31: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Place a piece of duct tape across the top of the board so that ½ of the width is attached to the towel and ½ hangs over the

edge.

Page 32: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Turn the board over.

Page 33: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Cut the ends of the tape as shown.

Page 34: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Fold the bottom tab of tape over the back of the board.

Page 35: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Fold the center tab of tape on each side as shown.

Page 36: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Fold the tape over the top of the board.

Page 37: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

Turn the board over and fold the remaining tabs down.

Page 38: Make a Suture Board Cheap!

board.

Page 39: Make a Suture Board Cheap!
