Dual Tabber Service Manual

1. Repairs should be performed by qualified service

personnel. 2. WARNING:

To avoid the risk of electrical shock, disconnect the machine from the A.C. power source before performing any service procedure.

3. The hardware used is METRIC. Replace hardware only with the same size as was originally used.

4. Observe caution when cutting cable “ty-wraps” so as not

damages the electrical wires. 5. Note the routing of wiring harnesses, cables and the

position of parts and assemblies before disassembly. They must be reassembled in the original configuration to avoid damage from moving components during operation.

6. When using a tool generating heat such as soldering iron,

take care not to damage the wire harnesses and cables.

1. Function of the Secap™ 2020 Dual Tabber

The Secap™ 2020 Dual Tabber is a device to feed the folded media or

booklet into a wafer seal mechanism to apply 2 tabs onto the open end or

top of the media. This is the least expensive approach to make the self-

mailer compliant with US Postal Office regulations. The Secap™ 2020 Dual

Tabber is a standalone tabber at speeds up to 21,000 pieces an hour.

6. Upper and Lower Shroud Adjustment

The shroud is a brown plastic piece. The purpose of the shroud is to form a funnel to pre-bend the tab.

6.1 Tab is not close to the edge of the media (refer to the figure shown below):

For an INCORRECT situation:

In general, the first tab is not in position for a 50/50 wrap

around. Adjust the first tab position up or down gradually to fine

tune. If not, follow the section 6.1.1 and 6.1.2 upper shroud /

lower shroud adjustment.

6.1.1 Upper Shroud Loosen the shroud fasten screw which is on the Side Plate

Rotate the mounting shaft clockwise. Be careful, if the

shroud is vertical it may cause a “Dog Ear” of the tabbed

media in the corner.

6.1.2 Lower Shroud Loosen the shroud fasten screw which is on the Side Plate

Rotate the mounting shaft counterclockwise to bring the

shroud away from the roller a little bit.

6.2 Tabbed media has “Dog Ear” in the corner

6.2.1 Upper Shroud Loosen the shroud fasten screw which is on the Side

Plate

Rotate the mounting shaft counterclockwise to make the

shroud angle smoother.

6.2.2 Lower Shroud Loosen the shroud fasten screw which is on the Side Plate

Rotate the mounting shaft clockwise to bring the shroud

closer to the roller a little bit for fine tuning.

7. Media Sensor Voltage Measurement Media sensors play an important role in monitoring and tracking

the flow of the media inside of machine. A majority of stall conditions

could be sensor related. Therefore, a digital multi-meter (DMM) is used

for measuring the voltage reading of the sensors and assuring proper

alignment.

(7.1) Set the DMM to greater than or equal to 20VDC.

(7.2) Place the black (-) probe to ground and place the red (+)

probe on Pin 1 of the sensor connector on the interface board.

(7.3) The voltage should be less than 0.2VDC when the sensor is

BLOCKED.

(7.4) The voltage should be more than 4.5VDC when the sensor is

UNBLOCKED.

The range of sensor’s voltage reading that is greater than 4.5VDC or

less than 0.2VDC is the best state for the sensor to monitor the media

movement.

The sensor connector on the sensor board has three pins. The first pin

is for the signal of sensor voltage measurement. The second pin is for

VCC (5VDC). The third pin is for ground. (Some sensor connectors are

4-pin, the 3rd pin is empty; the 4th pin will be common ground)

There are no adjustments for the sensors, if the readings are incorrect,

clean the sensor in question and take the readings again. If the

readings are still incorrect, replace the sensor.
