MAGNET CRITERIAChanges that will impact criteria:
• Smarter Balanced Assessments in lieu of CRTs
• Adoption of CCSD Regulation 5122 (semester grades K‐5)
• Standards‐based and regular report cards
• Change in timelines to accommodate earlier application window
• Examining criteria to ensure that one component does not disqualify a student
• Proposed changes to transportation will not have any impact on student admission to magnet programs
On September 23, 2014, a meeting was held with all magnet principals to develop recommendations for revisions in light of the outlined changes.

TRANSPORTATION—DRAFT PROPOSALCURRENT STRUCTURE AND HISTORY
• Since the advent of magnet programs in CCSD, we have bussed students from all over the valley, including Boulder City, to attend programs.
• With the establishment of CTAs, CCSD moved to transportation zones with the CTA Pilot Model.
• CTA transportation zones were established based upon the availability of several similar or “like” programs offered at each of the CTAs.

With the expansion of magnet programs across the valley, a proposal was developed to create a pilot phase transportation zone by:
– Providing similar programs of study– Density of students applying to magnet programs– Density of students living within particular areas
• Collecting feedback from schools regarding proposal

• Long rides on the bus have been the primary reason for students wanting to be released from programs
• Students accepted into a magnet program that a sibling currently attends will receive transportation permitting that there is space available.
