Front Cover Analysis

The masthead. The masthead is placed in the exact same place on every magazine issue. This is to familiarise the readers with the magazine.

The main image. Associated with the main article. Captures the readers attention and focus. There is a direct mode of address to the reader, this applies to uses and gratifications theory. The model is staring straight into the camera to create a more personal effect to the reader.

Cover lines. Articles inside the magazine. Put there to capture the readers attention on stories they might be interested in.

Colour scheme. The colour scheme of light blue is carried out throughout the front cover. This is shown through the blue under her eyes and the blue cover lines.

The tag line. This phrase it located at the top of the magazine and is placed in big bold letters to attract the readers attention. It makes the reader engage in the story and want to read more.

Barcode. Issue date. Price.

Strap line. An introductory headline to introduce the magazine.

Colour Scheme. There is a clear colour scheme of red. The name of the magazine is clearly marked at the top of the page, and this theme carries on with the name of the model, which also links in the colour red on her top. The theme then carries on with the model wearing red lipstick.

Masthead, always in block capital letters, and always in the same place on every issue. It’s in capitals which really makes it stand out. This is always the main house style in every issue of the magazine.

The main colour schemes for this issue of VIBE magazine are: Red, Black and White. These colours are very bland, but the black and white makes the red stand out, which draws your attention to the magazine. Beyoncé is wearing black and

white, and her name on the left hand side is the only piece of writing in black, the rest is in red, so this makes Beyoncé the centre of attention – which is the aim.

The tag line. Drawing the readers attention to what's inside the magazine, making them want to buy the magazine and read more.

Cover lines. Giving the reader a taster of the magazine. Letting them know what the contents of the magazine is but without giving too much away.

Tag line. Short, simple, but letting the reader know what to expect inside the magazine.

Main image. Although the model is starting into the camera which applies to uses and gratifications theory, the model is wearing sunglasses creating a mysterious effect. You can’t see his eye’s, but you know its creating a personal address with you from the way he is looking at the camera.

Masthead. This is in the same place on every magazine issue. The image is layered over the top of the title, making the model the main focus of attention.
