2. CLASH MAGAZINE 3. Clash is a popularmusic and fashion magazine based inthe United Kingdom. Its magazinetitle is published 12 times a year. Ithas a circulation of around 40,000.The magazine alternates betweenmodern bands such as Coldplay, TheProdigyand Oasis as well as hip-hopartists like Jay-Z, KanyeWest and Beastie Boys, who have allhad cover spots in recent issues. Itfeatures reviews of music, films andhigh-street fashion as well asinterviews with music stars andsections on new music. Themagazine won the Best NewMagazine award in 2004 at the PPAMagazine Awards and has wonfurther awards in England andScotland. 4. MASTHEAD The title is very bold and it stands out because itis all white and very large, this will draw reader in because it is very obvious. It has been edited to be behind the models head. A heavy sans- serif font is used for the mast head.OTHER This is the only piece of text other than the masterhead, it reads HEAVENLY. This isnt very descriptive and it doesnt give you a clear image ofwhat the magazine holds inside. But it does drawthe audience in and make them want to know more because it stands out so much. Because there isntmuch text it is hard to analyse the language and seeThe magazine is very simplistic, there wether this is a formal or informal magazine. This are no kickers, cover line or by line. text is in clashs own font which can be foundrepeatedly through their other issues. 5. COLOUR SCHEMEThe colour scheme for this cover is blue, white and red, which is very minimalistic keeping intheme with the rest of the magazine. The blue is in thebackground of the image and inthe models eyes. The white is in the masthead, the wordheavenly, the models skin (it is very pale and might have beenedited to be this colour) and her dress. The red is in her hair and her lips. The blue and white are quite peaceful colours and theymight make the audience think ofheaven therefore relating to thetheme of that issue. 6. EYE FLOW The eye flow is quite natural in thiscover. The audience would firstly notice the masthead, then themodels face. The eye flow kind ofmisses the word heavenly but whenthe reader looks properly they would end up noticing it. This might have been done on purpose so when theaudience finds the word they areenticed by it. 7. COVER IMAGEThe image they have used is of famous singer/songwriterFlorence Welch . It is a portraitmid shot of her face and shoulders. This photo was most likely shot in a studio asthe background is plain andthe model is well lit. Thelighting is coming from the topright corner; there is a shadowcasted on the left hand side of her face. The model has beenmade to look up so it gives theimpression she is looking up to heaven. 8. ROLLING STONEMAGAZINE 9. Rolling Stone is a US-based magazine devotedto music, liberal politics, and popularculture that is published every twoweeks. Rolling Stone was founded in SanFrancisco in 1967 by Jann Wenner, who is stilleditor and publisher, and music critic Ralph J.Gleason.The magazine was known for its politicalcoverage beginning in the 1970s, with theenigmatic andcontroversial gonzo journalist Hunter S.Thompson. Rolling Stone magazine changed itsformat in the 1990s to appeal to youngerreaders, often focusing on young television orfilm actors and pop music. This led to criticismthat the magazine was emphasizing style oversubstance. In recent years, the magazine hasresumed its traditional mix of content, including in-depth political stories, and hasseen its circulation increase. 10. MASTHEADThe masthead only uses capital letters at thebeginning of each word. The text is very rock looking and is probably the magazines own font. The mastheads main colour is red butit has a white outline and a black dropshadow. The masthead has been edited tobe behind the models head.OTHER The main cover line uses the colours red and black and iscompletely in capitals. The text in red explains who the magazine is about and then the text in black is what makes the audience want to This magazine cover is very busy read itthere are quite a few kickers and cover lines. 11. COLOUR SCHEME The colour scheme for this magazineis red, white and black. These colours are all really bold and fit in well with the busy magazine cover. The red inthe magazine is found in names or titles like the masthead and THE CLASH and JUSTIN BIEBER. The black is usually used for the kicker orthing that makes you want to read that particular article. It can also befound in the models black jacket. Thewhite can be found in the background, the models skin and t- shit and the text on top of the black jacket. 12. EYE FLOWThe eye flow in this cover is quite natural, because the natural eye flow starts on theleft most of the texthas been put on theleft so the audiencesees it and then whentheir eyes move to theright they catch the bold cover line about Justin Bieber which isthe main article. 13. COVER IMAGEThis is a portrait mid shot ofJustin Bieber a famous singer, heis looking straight ahead to seem as it he it looking into your eyes. This image was shot in a studio, you can tell because thebackground is plain white andthe model is lit very well. Highkey lighting was used in thisimage and the light wasprobably in front of the modeland a little to the left, you cantell by the shadow on the rightbehind him. 14. INSPIRATIONI was mostly inspired by RollingStone magazine as I liked thebusyness of it and the colour scheme.
