I started my career as a designer of mechanical and electrical parts, but I have always been fascinated
with the latest developments in the lighting sector. I apply my creativity to the development of new lighting
solutions, combining unexpected materials with the latest innovations in order to obtain new effects.
I graduated in architecture and engineering from the University of Pisa, where I also obtained an honorary
fellowship in lighting design. I have several years’ experience as a lighting designer and technical consultant
and I’m still involved in R&D with the academic world. I combine a designer’s creative mind with an engineer’s
analytical approach to explore unconventional solutions and create emotional effects by blending
light and materials.
RESEARCHPROTOTYPEVALIDATEITERATESELECTINNOVATE
Our method for creating something unique and authentic passes through a process of constant iteration to find the best possible solution. And excellence is produced.
I began to be interested by light and its applications twenty years ago and I have worked with light ever
since. Over the years I have gone from just working with mechanical aspects to working on the entire production
cycle of lighting products. This keeps me involved with all the aspects of a bespoke lighting product, finding the
solution that works best for each. I work daily with my greatest passion, light, and get tremendous satisfaction
out of making projects, created by the best architects and drawn for the most demanding clients, come to light.
Every division has a staff of qualified professionals and contributes to the creation of an object from the drawing board to the final production. By researching innovative materials and applications, we make prototypes that challenge our certainties to create new ones, allowing us to choose the perfect solution for each client and context.

The know-how that Cantalupi Lighting has acquired over the years lets us find the best
solutions to new challenges quickly. Still, our working method excludes no options, no matter
how strange they may seem to be. Some of our best projects have come from exploring
possibilities that others didn’t think of.
That’s why, starting from a simple “idea for light,” we can
help you develop a concept and design a project that
explores the best combinations of materials, technology and mounting solutions. To make
light and material become one, Cantalupi Lighting’s technicians
create an engineering solution that optimizes all the mechanical
and functional aspects of a given project and combines
them with light to evoke emotional effects.
The final objective is to bring out the best in the base materials’ colour and natural structure and reinterpret shape while filling function as a light
source. Places and spaces acquire unexpected personality and transmit emotion, welcoming
visitors along paths determined by the function they were created to fill. Design becomes
function in its fullest sense.

EVALUATION
The combined versatility of materials and lighting solutions allows us to make light an
integral part of walls, floors, ceilings and even furniture. The sky is the limit if you’re looking for a luminous and uniform light source that is made even more precious by the natural
richness of the materials that it is projected through. On the basis of position, dimensions
and base materials we can create a custom backlighting system that is guaranteed to be
the easiest to mount, maintain and eventually dissemble and the safest through time. We
don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions.
The evolution of production processes and working techniques combined with
the confidence acquired with the profound knowledge of our field allows us to blend light
with materials that have never been used in a context of lighting before. On the basis of
the project and the desired final effect, we can find the proper materials and prepare
them so that they correspond perfectly both to aesthetic and technical requirements. We carefully evaluate and analyse the chemical,
mechanical, thermal and especially the optical characteristics of the desired materials
to create lighting solutions where material is transformed by light, bringing new qualities to space and shape and creating effects that are
simply stunning.
There is practically no limit to the possible combinations of shapes and dimensions
that modern LED lighting systems can offer. But not every solution is the proper one
to obtain the final effect that’s desired in a certain space, both in terms of illumination
and in terms of emotional impact. That’s why we carefully evaluate LED lighting systems
to find the solution that will optimise the efficiency of the lighting plan while respecting
the original design. Because it’s the latest technology that lets light become one with
space while bringing out the most important elements of its furnishings.

The sinuous chromatic variations of the most prestigious stones, the ageless style of glass, the warm tones and soft lines of wood grain,
or the bold translucence of modern materials: in backlighting solutions light co-stars with the
material it’s used with to define and delimit spaces with a precious play of chiaroscuro,
colour and soft luminosity.
At Cantalupi Lighting we have the skill and experience needed to combine a range of materials
with light to make space dialogue with people.
Our lighting solutions marry light to material to create new means of communication.

Tuscany is rich in prestigious stones; as native Tuscans, we have an innate love for this unique primary material. Stones such as marble, alabaster and onyx can be cut into slices
that are just millimetres thick to make them become superbly decorative lighting materials with rich colours, fascinating strata and exceptional optical qualities. Our expertise in lighting
combined with the innovative stonecutting techniques perfected by expert Tuscan artisans lets us choose the stones with the best stratification characteristics and cut them into the
thickness needed to create a unique dialogue between light and the geological ages.
A patented process used to bond stone with glass lets us get our stunning results and bring out stone’s natural translucence while reinforcing it at the same time. You choose the stone that best corresponds to your taste and to your project’s technical requirements and we will
transform it into a truly unique combination of stone and light that takes the ordinary and turns it into something truly unforgettable.

CORIAN
FLAT SURFACES
When you reach the limits of Nature, man’s creativity and technological know-how steps in to fill the void. Corian is an example of a manmade material that goes a step beyond.
Corian is extremely workable, strong and resistant and it is so versatile that it can be used in lighting. It is nontoxic and not porous. It’s homogeneous, washable and can be repaired if
damaged. It can be used outdoors. It can be bent, carved, etched and even cut into an infinite variety of shapes without visible junctions. Most importantly for us it can be lit from behind.
Some types of Corian are ethereally beautiful when backlit, giving off a soft light. By playing with thickness and layers or by carving the surface, these types of Corian can be used to
create infinite plays with light. There are no limits; it’s only up to you to imagine a combination of form, space and light. Then up to us to create it.

GLASS
FLAT SURFACES
The combination of light and glass is probably one of the most ancient lighting effects known to man. Glass has inherent qualities that make objects made out of it naturally elegant. It’s
essential to many projects. Large glazed surfaces in etched glass can transmit light in a way that makes them a vehicle of strong visual and emotional impact. The use of special
techniques and the addition of decorative motifs make glass surfaces real works of art, not just decorative elements.
Glass natural transparency requires careful engineering to make sure that light is distributed evenly through it without creating the halo effect. Glass, by its very nature,
requires expert hands

WOOD
FLAT SURFACES
Wood is a natural material that man has always valued and worked with. We are used to seeing it as an opaque surface, a barrier that can be used to divide space and protect from
light. But today, thanks to special cutting methods combined with the use of LED lights, light can shine through wood to reveal the subtle notes of its texture
and the fine embroidery of its grain.
Elegant and refined feature walls in backlit wood look minimalist when the light source is turned off, but they become strong decorative elements as soon as the light is on. Walls,
doors, accent pieces and furniture take on a new functional and aesthetic role and become precious elements of a space that delights and amazes as wood takes on a new, unexpected

ACRYLICPOLYMERS
FLAT SURFACES
There are situations where function is important and one has to find a
compromise between the delicate nature of a material and the strength
that is required in a given situation. We have selected the best acrylic
polymers and developed the know-how to make them interact with
light for situations where weight and strength are important and for areas
where light performs a function instead of creating an effect.
What acrylic polymers don’t offer in terms of prestige, they make up for in terms of versatility. They may not be precious, but they offer endless
possibilities in terms of use: shapes, colours, sizes and combinations of all of the above can be backlit in any and every way you can imagine. Creativity
can be unleashed.

Thanks to constant research and experimentation conducted in collaboration
with the Universita’ di Pisa, we can create large, thin surfaces in any shape that give off a
uniform, soft-toned light. These LED source lighting systems can be created according to
our clients’ wishes and are very versatile.
We offer a wide range of LED light panels in a variety of light tones including White, in
different combinations of temperature, colour, power and Colour Rendering Index, Coloured,
in RGB or RGBW, and Dynamic White, that can be varied in intensity to mirror a sunny day.
These lighting systems, with their LEDs screened behind
opal plastic, are used as primary light sources because they
illuminate spaces uniformly, dissolving shadows.
They can be dimmed and panels can be mounted without frames to create continuous
surfaces. The size of the panels and their end use dictate the type of mounting system
used to guarantee safety, ease of use and maintenance along with mechanical and
aesthetic qualities.
Correct installation is important for the functioning of very large panels; Cantalupi
Lighting technicians may supervise the installation process.
DIFFUSE SYSTEMS

DIFFUSE SYSTEMS INDOOR
We feel that it’s important to offer architects and designers as many ways to express their creativity as possible so that
they can create spaces that perfectly match the needs of their clients. That’s why we have created diffuse systems that can
be used in interiors. Luminous architectural elements such as walls, ceilings or even floors installed on the same plane as
structural architectural elements bring out continuity.
When these elements are off they blend into their surroundings, hiding the fact that they are lighting and decorative elements. When they’re on they become a
continuous part of a whole, a large luminous surface that wraps space in soft, warm and relaxing light. Shadows dissolve,
corners are softened, people move through a space that is both sensuous and efficient. These architectural elements act
as light sources, but only when you need them to.

FREEDOM OF DESIGN,
POWER TO CREATIVITY.
At Cantalupi Lighting we make water protected lighting panels so that architects and designers can fully express their
creativity outdoors as well as in. The panels give off a soft, warm light that can be regulated and dimmed, making them
an excellent choice for bars and other areas for chatting and relaxing in. Shapes and dimensions can be adapted to fit
into spaces. By varying the arrangement, light intensity and the number of panels, these lights can be used to define the function of the area they’re mounted in, changing the mood
with just the flick of a switch.

CURVED SURFACES
Not every surface has right angles, not every building or structure has rigid, geometrical
forms. There are times when the communicative power of a space can benefit enormously from soft and sinuous lines, from curves that let the
eye sweep sweetly around the space.
To make these designs possible we have researched and
developed optical systems that adapt perfectly to curves.
Restrictions are reduced, possibilities are expanded, light and shape become one with
design.
37
CURVED SURFACES
Our curved surface systems feature lenses applied to each and every LED so that their beams of light widened, reducing the direct emission. Light is distributed evenly along the
backlit surface no matter what its size, geometrical complexity or curvature. Our curved systems are so thin that they adapt well in areas where space is limited.

OVERSIZED SYSTEM
There are projects that stand out for their rich details and the complexity of the space they
are mounted in and there are projects that are standouts for the shear size of the areas they
have been designed for.
For those oversized projects, we have custom solutions that allow architects and designers
to backlight large surfaces homogenously.
Purpose created for large spaces where geometries are not a constraint, thanks to
their light weight they can also be used aboard yachts or in special projects that require both
ease of installation and quality of the end result.

Our oversized systems are created in a way that recalls venetian blinds: they consist of a series of slats with LED lights mounted on them, connected by stainless steel cables that
both support them and act as conductors. This system offers the advantage of being both easy to install and easy to customise by varying the distance between bars or their number. The light source can beam in one or two directions if the backlit element can be seen from
both sides. Lightweight and easy to repair if necessary, this system is ideal for large projects that have to be mounted quickly.
